the storm has aleready gone over the netherlands....and some off us are still working to deal with all these broken limbs, trees and people that all of a sudden get afraid over every tree in their garden ;-)

I'm willing to do some storm work as well, only the travel expenses will be higher then the others.....

good luck over there and hopefully not too much storms.
just enough to get all the bills paid !

climb safe

Wow almost 300 views and only seven replies.....
Please keep me in mind for work people. I don't say I can do this and that I like to show you. I have a lot of my own gear. Love to learn and show up on time.

24/7 ready to go at any time now its nnot waiting for the storm but know that when it gets hear your ready to leave before it lands. Call me and ill be there

Guys,
I often do large storm-related projects and usually hire several bucket operators. Of course, we are headed into ice storm season so it will be cold. I would like to ask a few questions of you.:
How quickly can you be available?
Do you have a CDL and are you VERY familiar with operating/driving large trucks (most of our buckets are Ford F800s with 5 speed manuals)?
What do you expect to make per day (We cover all expenses except food)?
Do you have your own minimal gear (PPEs, bucket saw, minimal climbing gear, etc.)?
Are you willing to work 7 days a week, 12 hours a day if necessary?
Where are you located?

I look forward to your response, as we are finalizing our preparations for the winter.

I have a valid license, but don't have a CDL. I drive and operate a 2004 GMC with a 60' high ranger everyday as of now. I have been climbing and running bucket trucks going on eight years now. I have a lot of climbing gear, ropes, and three saws. I live near Baton Rouge Louisiana. We mess with firewood during the slow winter months, and I really don't feel like it this year. Your hours sound fine. I would like to get with you if you have work, and could work with me on the only issue of the CDL. THANKS.

Dandan, tis the season here. I will keep you in mind. We are currently putting together a plan to do storm work for a line company. Not the bid war work, but emergency call in week long work. We have a very good friend in charge of this and he came to us. Send me your name and number. It would be all over the country work too. Be safe.

So I am in my first Winter owning my own company and as expected work has slowed for me as well. I'm curious about the whole storm work gig and didn't really know how things worked. Any advice?

In what aspect of it? It's kind of a world onto it's own but with many of the same aspects. Are you asking about the business end of it, the long hours, dump sites, where to stay, what kind of gear to bring, how long companies stay? There's a LOT to it. Please narrow the question if you can bra.

I guess its kind of all that. Do companies just show up and drive around to get work, or do you try to find a local bus to partner up with? Ive got a pretty small operation, definitely dont have a ton of equipment, but can offer a lot of hard work. I guess Im trying to figure out whats the best way to get into it, either individually as a climber or as a small 3 man company with a truck and chipper.
