Looks like a Siberian elm, (Ulmus pumila), so don't worry about DED; It did probably have wetwood however, as most of them do. That would prevent a rot from really spreading aggressively, as the saturation is hostile to fungi. It would make it more susceptible to a hard freezing death too. But usually those bastards can survive anything, up to a nuclear winter . . .
