Stihl Submission policy

I recently contacted Stihl about some idea that I had to improve there saws, one thing is totally radical using a really cool but simple technology and something else that's pretty simple been around a long time just never seen on a chainsaw. Anyway they sent me a form to fill out, sign and submit with my idea and anyother materials.

They expect me to sign off on not recieving any compensation, no further consulting with them, they will not furnish any information respecting the results of the their evaluaionn. They pretty much want to know my secret and never to heard from me again. I guess I will just keep my little secret and see how long it takes for them to figure it out. Stihl is not at all American.

Who makes a good American chainsaw? made americans for americans? That's what I am gonna switch to.

You have to have some understanding of the German heirarchial system herr commandandt.

You still do not call your superiors by their first name, it's either Sir or Mr etc

I too have emailed them suggestions in the past and spoken with Reps, they certainly think within the box.

Take a look at their distribution policies and agency agreements.

I would like to see them make a saw that doesn't corrode from cutting palms ... even Echo has mastered that alloy.

If there were to be an all American chainsaw with the same or better weight and performance of the Stihl it would be great ... but that's a lot of tooling and cost to take on a saturated over supplied market. Lets see ... just off the top of my head

Stihl
Husky
Jonsered
Shindaiwa
Kohmatsu
OleoMac
McCulloch
Homelite
Dolmar
Poulan
Echo
John Deere
Makita
Ryobi
Hitachi
Alpina

Now are any of the above made in USA? And what other brands have I missed? /forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Doesn't sound quite fair to me Jon. Maybe they mean that they want to hear the idea then decide if they want to use it? If you were to invest in your ideas and bring a proto to life, you would have way more leverage for negotiating.

Oh, and BTW, many Stihl saws (and other equipment) are made in VA Beach by Americans.

Is there no way that you can talk to some-one in the USA branch direct.

Are you thinking carbon/fibre & ceramic cylinders?

I also believe the Echo alloy is of lower magnesium content thus less corrosion from palms ... I'm no metalurgist but they dont corrode as much ... perhaps not as strong though?!

Thanks Mark, I do understand they are made here in VA. I did send them an email back stating that I wouldn't agree to their terms. What they said was to even send a proto type and all material and pretty much give it away. I'm no falantherpist? sorry for the spelling. I may have to recruit someone with a bit more buisness sense to help me along on this journey.

How can you not know how to spell that? I thought you were from Filadelfia :)

Tell me privately what your idea is and I'll share with you one I've got for chippers. Maybe we can get rich and truly become philanthropists.

Oh, the cone of silence hey.

And the ole "I'll show you mine if you show me yours eh?"

I got an idea for stump grinders, any chance of a ..... ahhh, forget bout it! /forum/images/graemlins/zha.gif
