I have seven Stihl saws MS150(2pc), MS201TC-M, MS261C(2pc), MS441C and an MS661C. With bar lengths ranging from 12" to 36", these have served me well. All have the M-Tronic fuel management system except for the two MS150s. I REALLY like M-Tronic and have not had a moment's trouble with any of them. BTW, the MS150s have performed flawlessly, too. And though I don't need another saw ... well, I haven't YET found a need for a larger saw ... I have had a hankering for an MS880.

I was at my favorite Stihl dealer this afternoon and casually asked the service manager if/when Stihl will ever offer the MS880 with M-Tronic. He entertained my question and pulled up a Stihl parts list for the MS880, and his face grew to a look of surprise. Among the listed parts was the M-Tronic system. I didn't push him to research the topic further, but I suspect the "MS880C-M" would initially be offered in Europe.

Any of you chainsaw experts have any news of such a beast coming available?

No news here about the 880 M-Tronic, but I do want to say what a heavy beast. I ran a 088 years ago that my friend bought to mostly use with an Alaskan saw mill. At times we would pair it up with my 066 and have races in big wood. 36" bar on the 66 and a 48" on the 88. Mine kept right up with it but the 88 would beat me in the end. Not by much though! :D After bucking wood with the 88 for half hour it felt like it was twice as heavy as it is. If I remember it tiped the scale at 22lbs .... powerhead alone.

880 is a lovely saw....use one on an Alaskan mill....but is really is not for anyyhing but big trunkwood....a 661 will cut most shit around here so that is my go to.....a 150 is not M tronic....BTW....

I've haven't heard anything on any saw forums. Most people are waiting on the 462, that could be overshadowing the 880. Usually hear about updates well before any are seen.

I found a post from last year where a guy and dealer thought they had ordered an 881, came in as an 880. Tell your dealer to order one and send it back if it isn't mtronic lol. Stihl is so secretive.

I've run 90 percent stihl. One husky 339xpt and an old makita 520i when I started. I like all the stihl pro saws but when it comes to the big saw I agree with 661. I had a 660 for years then when it finally died I decided to replace with 880 and 460. I hate running the 880. The 660 with 32 or the max 36 inch bar is plenty. And the 880 requires the 404 thousandths chain which is wide and the bars are heavy. With the standard 3/8 chain on a 32 inch bar with a 660 you can cut probably as fast as the 880 with 32 inch 404 chain.
So now I'm selling my 880. Just replaced my 460 with 461. Only to hear there's a 462 coming. Dooohhhhh!! Anyway the max bar is 32" and I run that and a 20. Cut a 40" willow down today. Did the top with the stihl msa200 battery powered with the new 300 battery. Awesome. I came down from limbing the top into a 70' post with 3/4 of a battery left. In this -15 (5 Fahrenheit), you need to pre heat the battery before you go up. And tape up the crack around the battery. Lasted 45 minutes warm in the tree though. Look closely at the second pick. That's one piece of wood that takes up most of the trailer.

You can put 3/8" chain on it. Just need to change the sprocket and bar.

Yes I knew that but none of your 3/8 bars will fit the two over sized bar lags. 3/4 wrench nuts but bigger hole in the nut therefore bigger slot in the bar where the bigger studs go. The 3/8 sprocket for the 880 is designed for the 20 inch 880 bar. Im not 100% on all this but I know your 3/8 bars are designed for smaller studs. I'm sure there's a work around. Let me know.

Oh yeah, I'm loving my MS661C with 36" bar ... broke it in cutting up several 42" diameter oak logs for a coworker ... it just never stops pulling. My desire for an 880 is really nothing more than just bragging rights of having (almost) all their pro-grade saws from the smallest to the biggest ... and I would put it to use when the situation demands it.
