Stihl ms201tc black fuel valve solenoid

I just refurbished a Stihl ms201tc and it has the black fuel valve solenoid. The saw floods on the cold start triangle. It will fire wide open throttle and run, but it seems like it loads up on fuel at idle and dies. It won't run in the triangle for mtronic reset. I think upgrading to the green fuel valve solenoid will fix this. The saw passes pressure/vac, the needle in the carb seats and holds pressure, the flywheel is gapped within spec, and the wires for the mtronic have continuity. Are there any other diagnostic tests I can do before plugging it in at the dealer, or any suggestions?

I heard the green solenoid got scrapped, and the white was the latest? I know that when the black ones wear out the plastic metering disc is allowing more fuel to pass than anticipated. The saw can compensate for the excess flow up until the solenoid ultimately reaches a mechanical limit. So yes, what you're seeing could be worn solenoid. Remember though that V3 coil must have white solenoid. V2 coil can use white or black. In case you don't know saws history and somebody put in wrong solenoid.

This saw fell off a truck or was run over. The inside looked brand new and it held pressure and vac. So, i went from there. I am in it about $220 all together which is reasonable imo for an almost $800 saw.

Wow, that's a great price. The white ones were running $70+ at one time. Glad to see Stihl coming to their senses on the solenoid price.

If you are interested, this is a 1 pull hot start following an mtronic reset.
