Widely regarded as a great Saw, especially the version 2. I would own one but I use the 241 and 362 Saw plan.

Why do you use that plan?

Because I haven’t gotten around to buying a ported 261. The 241 ported can handle all things the 261 can do stock except for running an 18” bar, and that’s what the 362 is for.

I have an original 261 that I modded myself by porting the muffler then put a 20" 3/8 050 bar and chain and it eats wood like a champ. I have had it for at least 6 years and it just keeps going and going (I only run 110 leaded with hp ultra mix). It is also the largest saw of the professional line that they build in the US.

Thanks for the great info W^3
Does your 261 have a manual adjustable carb or does it have the new C-M computer chip non adjustable carb ?

Ok you asked, the Mtronic carb is a genius idea theoretically. That being said the reason it gets a bad rap is bc if you do not let your saw idle down before shutting it off, it will screw up the carb setting and make it difficult to start next time or keep running at all. I personally am not thinking about letting it idle down when in a tree and cutting big sections down. I want to shut it off, and get it out of the way so I can listen to the wood. For that reason I even went above and beyond as the 661 was what I would need mostly but went w the 880 bc it too has no Mtronic. 461 is next down that you can still get with adjustable carb. I tune em for the 110 mix and haven’t had to mess with em since. In short it’s good but I’ll pass for adjustable any chance I get

Have a 261cm woods ported with muffler mod. I run 40-1 and it screams, by far my favorite saw in a tree. I have not noticed it being harder to start when shut off without idolling.
