Stihl in tree saw prices

I have been using a stihl 09L for my in tree saw for years and its still going strong(knock on wood).just for curiosity i priced a MS 201 TCM and was blown away at the price!WTF! $600 +. I only paid a few hundred more for my 066 magnum in the early 90s and its still running strong after cutting hundreds of cords of firewood and tons of big wood.what is so special about this saw compared to the smaller home owner saws that are alot cheaper?

I bought my first saw in 1994 it was a 036 pro 20” bar and chain and it was just over $600

$600 isn’t a bad price for a 201 actually. They are over $700 at my dealer. Should last you 10 years no problem.

By comparison in today's dollars, $600 for a high end trim saw is pretty reasonable. I have zero recollection what I paid for an MS200 in '05ish but pretty sure I paid somewhere around $375 for an 020 in 2000, about $550 today so not too far off the current $600 price tag

The MS 201 TC is a computer chipped saw. It learns constantly. Self adjusting fuel mixture.
I've had mine since late 2016 or early '17. This saw screams. I'd buy another without a 2nd thought if needed. Unfortunately mine came un-clipped from my saw lanyard and hit a large rock after dropping 40 some feet. I need a replacement handle and possibly some trigger linkage. The MS 200T has been providing back up service since mid Sept.

Good point! I havnt been saw shopping lately. Still living in the dark ages. I guess when you buy a stihl it last a lifetime if you feed it non ethanol fuel and HP Ultra mix.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a MS 250 used once for $240 while working hurricane florence down in carolina. Our birddog bought it to cut a tree in his yard from a previous storm.very nice little saw for the money and light and easy to start in a tree for the bigger stuff.

Nice you got a good deal on an okay saw.
For a new purchase I'd gladly spend twice the coin for a MS261c.
In fact I did .... hands down the the winner for it's weight class. Think 026 Pro with a chip.

I have both. Yes different qualities of tools for two different operators.

One is a cheap, effective beater, $300 at Christmas, maybe, now, still, for New Years.

The other is a good saw, with bigger dogs added.
