Stihl 131 idea

So I need to buy a string trimmer and a pole saw, but I need a string trimmer more. I was looking at stihl 131 power unit and buying the stihl fs 131 and wondering if I could buy the extension pole and head unit and swap them out as needed. since I do not always need a pole saw but will use it a couple times a year. Instead of buying the Kombi System which I do not believe would last as long or have more problems. But that is just my thought This is just out of curiosity and if I am being crazy and dumb then let me now.

Personally, I would buy a Kombi. Changing heads on a regular trimmer is a nuisance, and it’s easy to do it wrong and mess up the shaft inside. The Kombi changes easily, and can be easily lengthened with the extension shaft.

Also, buy the carbon fiber extension, not the steel - the weight difference is a big deal, and the steel extension will wear you out much faster than the carbon fiber. That one is heavy enough.

Alternate idea is to buy the trimmer and a set of Jameson poles with a saw head.
Although sometimes I wish I had a pole saw, I have the poles and Silky saw. It can reach higher to do cuts a pole saw won't touch. Super sharp and cuts quickly. Downside is when doing multiple cuts the arms can get tired and my head wishes I had power pole saw.

I rarely use my Kombi Pole saw.

It's lasted 13 years, without issue.

You are only meant to use one extension.

I've had some really crusty trees were i used 3 from an adjacent tree, 2 were carbon-fibers. Worth the extra money.

If you go the route you suggested, you may find your reach to be insufficient. I think anything under 12 ft for pole saw is gonna leave you wanting more. If you go combi system and buy the extender poles, just be sure to get a power head big enough to run it. BTDT with an echo branded setup, and the echo 225 power head was lacking for that setup. Personally, I like the Jameson poles idea. 3x 6ft poles with a 15" blade and your in business for just about anything you run across.

The husqvarna electric extendable pole saw is an amazing, amazing tool. Just have to be careful how it is loaded and unloaded from a truck.

I have the kombi system at home and I would not buy it again. The internal mechanisms that connect the attachments wear, break, are generally fussy. I certainly would not recommend it for professional use. Instead of buying a new attachment for a brush cutter blade, I switch out the head of my string trimmer. This takes approximately 90 seconds. If I had to do it again I would just get the most powerful string trimmer available and switch out the heads that way.

I recently got the Milwaukee m18 power pole saw.. its nothing I’d seek out, but I had to buy their pole battery hedgers for a job. We weren’t allowed to make engine noise until after 10am. This was to use in place of my kombi with the biggest power head available.
compared to kombi it’s fairly gutless (never tried the power pole saw) but it gets the job done at half the weight with much less noise

I have had two of the biggest Kombi's KM 130 and 131, i think.

I needed a powerhead before i could fix my KM 130. Not worn out. Needs the throttle cable replaced from wear, and probably a carb kit.
