Been lurking for a while, finally signed in. long story short.... looking to get certified, i have a lawn/landscape business and am doing quite well for a 2 man show, i always enjoy the tree work that comes my wa, and have done many tree jobs over the last 8 years ive been in business.This year i got serious and ordered the tree climbers companion and a few catalogs and away i went keeping the UPS guy busy wih all that free shipping i took advantage of. i have taken arborculture in college, but that was a few years back. Anyhow, looking at what steps to take in getting Isa certified?

Sorry for the derail man, All I used like others said was the study guide from ISA. And then look over it. Do the practice questions.

I looked at the process and figured it would take about the same time as a 3-4 credit college class. I set my pace and did the reading in the evenings. Must have had a stack of flash cards for vocabulary 1/2" thick.
The study guide is that. Not to say anything less than positive about it, do not limit yourself to just it. IMO, studying the study guide will only get you 80% towards passing. The broader experience you have with the subject the greater opportunity you may have to being guided to the best answer. Such is our industry.
Also obtain the ANSI Z133.1, appropriate ANSI A300 standards and BMPs, Gilman's "An illustrated guide to pruning, second edition".
Read, ask questions, practice, repeat.
