I have the opportunity to pick one of these up brand new, never used, with all the original paperwork from a friend of mine for about $700. He won it in a contest from Treestuff a while back and has never used it. While I already have a few lowering devices this seems like to good a deal to pass up. I don't have anything with a winch. I've read some pretty good reviews about this device and was wondering if anyone on here uses it and can attest to it's awesomeness.

Its a solid , well built piece. I like how fat the bollard is. My man on the drum has mastered taking up slack / pretensioning/ lifting pieces all alone. Always remember to pay serious attention to what's going on around you when dealing with any winching device.Your generally in a position open to exposure down at base of Tree. Senas are super tight with these devices ..The power of the stien is large...anchor points that are suitable for the force you may need to apply during any specific operation need be chosen well. As the climber avoid getting you body in anyway between anchor point and piece being removed. The pieces can come off fast if pretensioned then cut if you say mid ty instead of picking the tip certain or the butt . Choose your cuts carefully with consideration of forces and how the final result will react when winching..It ends up resembling crane work sorta.. Having a pole with a hook that can push the prussic from winch line up the rigging line has proved very useful for long lifts. Again make sure whomever is operating the stein is super aware.Get communication devices if you don't have them... Locking of the load line to reset the winch line is the greatest limiting factor as opposed to non stop pull from say grcs..one man has to lock off reset while two people its smoother..We'll sometimes setup bigger pieces if feasible,I'll come out of Tree to help finish with the winch. Usually needing it on shorter wide thick trees with close targats like houses. I really enjoy pretensioned static rigging. Not so much always needing to lift all that often.. All in all the winch is from a high quality company. It's pretty fast too. High quality all around. Price is right. I love it.

Your description sold me and I picked it up today. Can't wait to use it! Ended up getting it as a trade for a few guns I was selling plus $150. This thing is heavy duty! The bollard size is great! 3/4 rope seems to just barely fit the first wrap with the winch on but with a slight tug it fit. I had a bullrope bag I was planning on using to hold it but It's way to heavy. I'm thinking some kind of crate, what do you use to transport it?

I have an old sturdy klien bag that the whole kit fits in perfectly. Fricking steins heavy duty right. We always say two guys on that bag if the minis not right there. Or of course it gets dibs on the arbor trolley tours too.
