This is what I do when I climb DdRT.
Big wall climbers are harder on their gear and much more exposed than arbos. There's no reason to abuse gear though. Each situation is unique and needs to be considered.
When I pull a FC I'm more concerned about it snagging or hanging up on a bark flake, stub or tight branch union than any damage. If there is a remote chance of hanging or damage I use a throwline. Or, lick Blinky, I move my FC down as I descend in pitches.
