SRT Rope Trick

Good deal as long as you can reach the other side connected to the trunk anchor. If not a groundman could do it so either way good idea.

Yeah i addressed that in one of the other videos. Just ask the ground guy to pull down.

Also you can tie the tail of your rope onto your biner that way it creates a continuous loop. That way its retrievable if something doesn't go right.

Its a static line, PMI's 11mm Classic Sport Rope.

TreeStuff.com is the only arborist supplier i know of selling it.

Very nice feel for a static rope, extremely low elongation but still knots very well and has a nice softer feel to it. I really like it for SRT climbing. Works great with hitches and ascenders.

I like seeing how some of the DdRT techniques are being tweaked to fit SRT!

Using a Uni makes this trick so easy...just lanyard in, take the Uni off the roPe but attached to the harness and flip the rope over

Curious as to your experience when weighting the TIP with double the force compared to just sending up a running bowline.
On sketchy climbs it freaks me out half way up the tree when I remember my 200lbs is now 400lbs.
What is the device you have ahead of your prussik?
Does your prusik co-operate much the same as when you where climbing drt?
Thanks for the tips. Happy New Year

If your TIP is sketchy why are you using it?

A TIP should have a high safety factor, so high that there is no thought of it's reliability for DdRT or SRT. If not, change it.

The potential for changing the load factor is something to be aware of and must be accounted for of course. Bottom line...don't use anything but bomb proof TIPs.

I agree but who is able to get high, bombproof TIPs from the ground on every tree? It's definitely the goal but you can't do it every time.

Sometimes I feel perfectly comfortable with some tips while climbing Ddrt, that would be really sketchy climbing srt on.I know in every day production work I run in to sketchy stuff all the time.Dead trees, hollow trees, included bark and guess what i STILL GOT TO CLIMB THEM.Sometimes I have to actually prune the top chasing misletoe, dead wood, weight reduction or even storm damage. In a perfect world we would always have that bullet proof tip,but most trees I need to go about 15 feet above that.I try to midigate the risk, but sometimes you still have to do trees with risk and you cant run from it-if you plan on getting paid.Maybe at a comp or rec climbing everything is ideal but not doing daily production-if it is I guess im doing something wrong.

I never try an hit my high final TIP. I want to be able to inspect my TIP make sure its sound. I also normally wrap the rope around the stem or run it through multiple branch unions.

Plus i want to be in the tree as quick as possible and trying to hit that perfect spot takes to long. I try and hit a major branch union in the area of where my final TIP will be. I have a 3 throw rule for myself. If i can't hit in the first three throws i have to change where i'm throwing from and just take whatever i hit on the next throw.

I'm going to try and take some more video today of other types of redirects.

Specifically, sketchy means the TIP is just for ascent and not for working and may slightly fracture, have some decay, or the access rope is over a smaller limb that might fail and cause slow or sudden small drop and a whole host of other scenarios I could try to remember.
The point being it is fine to climb but to be 100%, I'm not perfect or crazy. I guess that depends on who you ask.

Does your prusik co-operate much the same way as when you where climbing drt? Lock ups etc.
The static line you are using, how much harder is it then say the Velocity. 10 20 50% more? Bouncy rope can be pretty annoying at times.
I am interested in what you actually experience on trusting a TIP when WORKING on an SRT and the doubling of the force experience. Whats it feel like? Is it more bendy? I am always out on the periphery and you know the balancing act can be pretty precarious to the point of failure and hopefully never to the TIP. How long did it take to get used to SRT work. How do you rate the experience and the effeciency of SRT over DRT?

Here is another redirect. Little more gear intensive. Its a removal/retrievable redirect used if there are no good branch unions to use.

I use my footlocking prussic and a spare biner, so i use gear that i already have on me.

The single line goes through both biners but the tail is captured with just the one. Hope the video shows what happens.

Just another trick for the bag.

SRT removable/ retreivable redirect.

I have difficulty translating the years and hours that Ive spent fine tuning SRT into forum responses. It would take too long, sorry

SRT requires a new mindset. More thought has to go into setting up the whOle climbing system. I find that I've become an even more conscientious climber on SRT.

Jimmy...I know what you mean. There are calculated risks that are just that...calculated. We pay attention and account for them.

The loads and forces are much different too. Make small changes...low and slow...think a lot before trying out anything new
