I recently tried several new things: GoPro, Rope Wrench, Single Line Rope Walker, SRT Retrievable Redirect. They're all in the following video with a fun 'out-take' at the end.
Nice video, SJ. Thanks for posting. I really like the system you've thought up. For a moment, I thought you were going to climb off a retrievable slip half-hitch.
I have just one thing to mention in your positioning while installing the redirect. Correct me if I'm mistaken, but did your lanyard run from a side D to a center attachment point on the front of the saddle? If so, my suggestion is to locate your connection points in a mirror image on the saddle. This creates even and symetrical loading should a fall occur. I often relocate my lanyard into a DdRT config on the center of my bridge for just that reason.
I heard from Tom D that the two of you met at TCI. Are those gloves proof that you were at the show?
I would like to have met you as well. Keep up the climbing and sharing of ideas!
Good eye! ... I too, often relocate to the center (DdRT config) especially when working down a stem to eliminate the "Circle-Of-Death". But, in this case, with the limb above, left -- it made for a more stable stance while setting the redirect.
I got the idea from watching one of Derrick's videos where he used two biners and a sling. I wanted to see if I could do the same thing with just one Q-link. It did work but won't be used often - just another tool in the kit.
The SLRW worked great ... and the gloves are from Home Despot, 10 for $10. The Rope Wrench was from the Expo.
Found this Stein video, below. What do make of it ... no description, voice over or comment? Do you suppose it's just trying to show that a soft tether is fine?
