I never read the directions on the geckos. That makes a ton of sense.

I like the Velcro lowers because I can get them screaming tight, but that's pretty genius.

My apprentice can't stand spikes. We've tried every which way and they just hurt his feet. I wonder if this would help? Never encountered an issue like he's having before. Debating trying the platform style to help him.

I wonder if running the leather straps that way would cause them to wear out faster, or if there's any "safety" issue? I'd imagine not if he's posting about it, beings as he's probably ran them that way for a long ass time and he pretty thoroughly researches stuff.

I ran my "leather" straps under the spur for a long time, because I had trouble keeping the stirrup where it belonged. Running the straps under the spur fixed that problem, and made spurs much more comfortable to me.

After I wore out the original straps, I put on the Notch Velcro straps, and I am able to use them in the traditional fashion without trouble.

I don't think running the strap I do the spare causes any safety problem, but they do seem to wear out sooner because they are being pulled around a much tighter series of bends, and running against a relatively sharp edge.

I prefer a smaller heel on all my climbing boots so I had issues with the stirrup wanting to walk regardless of how tight I got the bottom strap in the traditional fashion, I switched to the way shown and it sucked it up into what heel I have/had and locked it in a lot better, I’ve also since switched to Velcro for a while and could snug it down enough to keep without movement but I’m back on leather bottoms so I’ll be running it like this again.
