Spur / Foot Ascender

Now i'm not saying its going to work, or its a work safety thing...but I just wanted to try a method that could be throw away if needed, and something that takes two seconds to do...its a wide cabletie wrapped in a figure 8 on a croll, the position is good and it only moves a bit with my full weight on it.
Should be giving it a try in a few days.

I like it! Looks like it may have a bit of play in it, a bit of potential twisting. I'd like to know if this works out for you Tuttle.

Logic: I was always using my foot ascender under the spikes. It wasn't so bad. I just thought there was a better way and I knew I had a second CT ascender for pruning, so why not bolt that bad boy on. Works great.

One less thing to take on and off is always nice as well. I feel like a mechanical exoskeleton everytime I jump up in a tree, and I am even pretty good about minimizing gear/clutter.

To each their own is the name of the game we call life.

Now Swing like to get things right, these were a gift from my buddy David Coker of Alabama....steel buckingham pole gaffs with a ct right ascender...they have been tested by him and are good to go... was away in Canada and have not yet tried them...look very promising...if so my titanium bucks will get the go ( gotta figure out the mounting of the titanium )....IMG01518-20140618-1922.webp IMG01519-20140618-1923.webp IMG01520-20140618-1923.webp IMG01521-20140618-1924.webp

Looks slick Swing. Are both the steel and aluminum tapped/threaded (if you can tell)? Wondering how he did it with the bolts coming through the backside like that. Looks nice and slick, and the CT ascender is much more smooth than the cmi I used.

Mike both the steel and aluminium are tapped makes it very strong, and a weld above the ct for added strength....they are pro fabricated...he is working on a bracket as we speak that will be a add on....

I wonder how long it will be when they are fully integrated, I am looking the spikes and just the sprung tooth mechanism....how's this gunna work??

Bolt straight through the toothed clamp and the spikes, invent a different spring, and thinkup up a new rope guide plate.....hope Buckingham are clocking this thread :)

I have a friend who installed a pantin on his hooks and as he was going up his rope came out of the pantin and gaffed his leg , he's done w/that ... just SRT ,or gaff it up .. Later in SO-CAL

Yeah, slipping out of the Pantin sounds like it could have painful repercussions with spikes on. Maybe instead of giving up on it, your friend should try clipping it, to block it from coming open...at least with spikes on

Javier it's all in technique, when I step up on my ascender with my right foot I invariably have my left foot in a bent position slightly above my right.. others do it differently...that being said I have not used the above set yet and I a not sure it is my thing...it's experimental... I still prefer SRT'ing up then putting on my spikes at the top if I can work the tree from the top...most times I just spike up and work one side from the ground making a hole as I go....different scenarios depending on tree but I like my standard buckingham Titaniums too much I guess....I am just used to doing things this way and it works good...will try those sometime if the right tree comes along...hope I don't gaff myself...lol

Swing, I'm thinking that the potential of spiking yourself might make you less confident in your foot ascender technique, so why not put a clip in it? Hell I've never tried it either...just trying to use my noggin.

I took the strap off my cmi foot acender and drilled two piolot holes where the straps slots were used an old bashlin climber without spur matched them together drilled piolots using cmi as guide screwed in two self tappers using jb ground off screw tip only and have used them for 3 years comfortably
