Spikless Palms Fact or Fiction?

Awesome! Another one to add to the Arborvision collection. We did a "spikeless" palm job the other day. Only clusters of two, definatley not as intricate as your set up. Gotta spike the tops sometimes though, we just don't get gaff happy. How long did the climb take? Did you have enough water? Great job bro, please keep em coming.

HOw often do you have to go through palms like that? Is it every year or every ??? years?

Even here in Austin I see palms with lonnnnnggggg skirts of dead fronds. How long does it take to develop a skirt?

We consider them to be a hazzard after 3 years. 2 to 3 tree trimmers a year die in the valley because they climb under that death. I lost a good friend to it. A bearded palm is a healthy palm and to me in its best looking state. Too bad people cant just let them go. I think you met Mercado right Tom? Hes the one that turned me onto the whole idea of going over the top with the Big Shot. I geuss they lose over 20 guys a year in So Cal. to palm skirt fatality. Not a good way to go.
I think setting a line and treading lightly with spikes is the best option. I still gaff in at the top.

Flaming aarow is the best way to trim them but Mercado never works that into his Workshops or power point presentations.

Good Job Jess.. I did one 60ft this wk-end Frog srt ...

Keep up w/ the good work '' later from SO-CAL

Great work!

I use a Ddrt on Royal palms and sabels here in the Florida keys, but the srt looks better. ANSI 9.2.6 sites that skirts with three years growth shall be removed from the top down using a climbing line and false crotch.

And in a clients back yard with no lift access, this is the only way. When at the top, I girth hitch webbing slings for position.

whats the deal with your RW?

Thats one I made before I ordered the real deal.

Are you inquiring about the holes or the way I used it?

Mine turned out a bit heavier than I wanted so I drilled it up. Also, too much time on my hands as well. Kevens dialed in on it for sure. Im glad I orderd one. Its all I climb on now.
