spikes

I really like the alum.baslins gaffs feel compared to to kleins which i hated .i'm not a big removal guy but i like the small ones.lookng at price gecko's are the same price as the bashlins when you get cush. pads.what's your gaff of choice.

I really like the geckos, the pads are really comfortable. Equally nice are the buckingham ones with the big grey pads.
I am getting ready to change out the gaffs on the geckos though, get the small pole ones like scotty posted about.
Anybody out there know what the thinking behind the gaff design on the geckos? Weird to me, really have to set them in!

I have buckinghams with the large euc pads. The pads make the climber in my opinion.short vs. long gaff is a personal choice based on the type of tree you climb.

I love my geckos. I have climbed in steel kleins with the euc pads and the t pads and the super wraps and I love my geckos with the spike angle.

I use the Buckingham Titanium spikes fitted with pole gaffs and I use the super wrap cushion pads. I found that they were comparable in weight to the Aluminium Bashlins however due to the fact that Titanium is stronger, the base of the spike which is stood on (in the arch of the foot) is thinner. I found this to be an advantage when branch-walking during removals because it didn't protrude from the instep of my boot causing me slip.

I use the aluminum bashlins, long gaffs and the large euc pads.

Comfortable for me. I spend alot of time on my spurs doing
quite a bit of removals.

thanks, the bashlins seem to be lighter, seems like our velcro wrap pads make a big difference in comfort .i saw some weaver pads like you have bodean which are a alot cheaper.

I was looking in a catalog the other day. How many of you guys wrap the foot straps arounf the shaft before buckling them in. I never have. I wonder if somebody could tell me the pint of that?

It makes the spur fit tighter, with less movement. I did it for a long time, then changed my mind and stopped wrapping. In my old age I actually prefer a bit of flex down there.

Try both ways to see what you like.
