You can always use pirateship, it seems odd but pretty much gives you the commercial discount for shipping UPS or FedEx, usually 70% off what the store charges a retail customer.

I sent some rope to a guy @levi r (maybe) on the buzz. Wrapped it really neatly in a heavy trash bag, taped it well, and sent USPS. The costs were not as bad as expected from what I remember.
