Soft Shells

I have a fleece jacket with windstopper by Mountain Hardware. This will be it's sixth season. Pricey but has tons of value.

This company will make one to yout exact measurements. Afterr pricing onwith my options it was a better deal than off the rack.

The site is back up and working. Those are some Nice jackets! They are a little expensive. The one I want is around 200. I will have to wait until after christmas but I think I will get one to climb in and kp the North Face one to go out in on cool nights.

I have to agree with TK, i have two mountain hardware soft shells. One for trees and one ice climbing, both have held up very well. If you look at mountaingear.com you can sometimes find them on sale.

I've used patagonia, core skin, mix master and dimension parka. They are made out of patagoinas version of schoeller fabrics.

I have Shoeller pants or a version of shoeller by cloudviel, patagoina, arcteryx and tnf. To me the stuff wears like iron.

I'm not too familiar with the North Face Apex Bionic is it ripping on you? Kind of surpriseing. I have yet to rip any of my solft shell stull..........except whan i fell and jabbed an ice ax in my leg.

No it is not ripping just wanted to know what the toughest soft shell out there was. MAybe I am being fooled by the soft feeling of them, thinking they will rip.

I have had good luck with my North Face soft shell with the wind stop fabric. I have used it in many environments and I have had it for 7 years. I think a lot of companys are using the same technology.

i wear my Apex Bionic everyday. I'd stay away from fleece, i think it gets too dirty and dusty. Soft shells are hard to beat. what alternative do you have in mind?

i have a sierra designs that i got on sale for $103 and a ll bean that i also got on sale for $73 both have windstopper which you know bostonbull you need along the northshore. both are very comfortable to climb in and are both extremely sturdy. although the ll bean one got pine pitch on it and wont come off but i guess now its waterproof too. definately worth the investment.
