Social media comments....

Sometimes there’s just no endgame. Obviously they didn’t take the time to really look at the photo to see how well the systems were installed. Easy to transfer into the ZZ and come down. It all looks good from my armchair…

Was this a guy or a girl? Those comments are misleading.
I read those comments as folks picking on a young man for having an emotion and expressing it. Because, in their minds, people raised to be men are not allowed to cry or express their emotions. Which, it should be noted, is untrue!

It was a guy.
Because Zach mentioned that he cried because he was so touched by the generosity of others towards him, one of the comments was a paragraph calling him a girl. Macho bullshit. Even worse, Internet Macho Bullshit. The sky is the limit in determining just how big of a badass one wishes to portray themselves.

Here’s a pic I saw over there. It’s almost funny until one thinks about where it all ends. During what appears to be an unlawful lane closure with no signage and no flaggers to control traffic, this guy is very, VERY angry that someone ran over one of his traffic cones. We can’t have that now. Better someone damage their car and cause an accident than risk damage to those expensive and fragile cones! That’ll show them! So now along with his cones, he’s going to use some wood to teach them not to hit his cones. Methinks the one teachable moment here will not be absorbed. That teachable moment of course, is don’t do any of this stupid shit. Mistakes were made before the logs got rolled into the road, but probably nothing that’ll have to involve the courts. Someone gonna fuck up their car, possibly causing an accident or other injury…. Does anyone think the driver would be held at fault for this shitshow?

All of us can sympathize with having Coneheads intrude into our designated work zone. Putting out logs like that and causing injury/damage will be a sure way to legal or civil lawsuits.

The name of the DOT book about traffic control escapes me right now. Follow that any you might have a defensible position. I can't recall reading that logs backing up cones is acceptable.

So, I started a TikTok account a few weeks ago and am amazed at some of the comments that come up. Here's an example of a couple of them, but I've had some really crazy ones come up before. Can't really understand what makes people want to spew negative stuff or even make comments like these?

My social media guy opened this account in March to promote our new efforts on youtube. He wasn't at all adept at communicating with arborists and got lots of comments like that right here:) My apologies for not checking up on him sooner. I think a lot of people want to feel like they are in a position of knowledge and competence and can't accept new comers and outsiders. Insecurity may be another reason combined with the phenomenon of social media where perfect strangers have the confidence to cast insults at just about anything. Wait, I'm probably over thinking the hell out of this thing:) Kill them with kindness Mark see you in Inde.

You’re not overthinking it, there’s probably all kinds of root causes to make people behave how they do. I reckon insecurities have much to do with some folks. Overinflated egos seem to be a popular cope.

People are more polite in person when there’s actual risk of getting punched in the mouth for being intentionally offensive.

So I just talked to my sister on the phone, and chatted about getting a load of chips. She saw some guys working down the block the other day, and asked if she could have the chips for mulching her garden. The guy said 'sure, just a small delivery fee' and she didn't ask exactly how much that might be. A 'mistake' I guess you could say, but an understandable one.

Now personally, I'd hope for like $40-$50 bucks in this situation, but wouldn't ask for anything. (ChipDrop is free for example) It's honestly just material I'm looking to get rid of, any money is a nice bonus but really I'm only looking to empty the truck in a convenient place/time to be ready for the next work-day. That's my perspective, it does color my reaction.

When they arrived at her property and started dumping, she asked how much she should pay and the guy was like "well...... I've got a few guys here and a 1-hour minimum.... so....."

Now I'm not going to give the location or the amount they asked for, but it's a lot more than I think was fair given the situation and she was obviously being pressured and made uncomfortable by this group of guys while she was there alone. By the way she explained it, they intentionally put her in a high pressure situation and didn't give a price until they had already dumped the load. Seriously sketchy-tree-guy behavior and the kind of thing that makes us ALL look bad.

I'm not one to run to social media and complain about a businesses behavior, but I told her this one should be called out.

I’ve been selling chips here for quite some time, I have more chip sites than chips at $125 per load.
The local green waste dump site takes them for free, charges $14 per yard with a min of $50 delivery. All I say is I charge $125 delivery and the chips are free

The idea that people are doing you a favor by receiving your chips is a bit off. Maybe in some cases, where you’re on the outer rim of your market, on a big job, and the commute to dump at a normal site would put a small dent in the margin?

But like @evo said, “more sites than chips”…if so many people want chips, it obviously shows they have value. I think it’s ok to charge something.

Must be nice! Around here, we are having trouble finding places to dump them. There’s only a couple mulch yards left that accept chips, and some of those are charging $150/load to accept them!
