So this is 2 trees the same age

This was a sprout at the same stage as the other tree when I potted it probably 6 years ago now. This demonstrates the effects being root bound. Take note of the large leaf with winged seeds! And if anyone wants to take a stab at the type of maple this is Super!505E5BDD-2CE1-4601-A30F-36DB3F48CF71.webp

Big leaf given your location?

Looks similiar to a sugar or Norway too. A good shot of buds and samaras would be helpful for a better ID
Big leaf maple is a coastal tree in BC, with some near creeks and rivers in the interior. This is not Big leaf. The 2 other candidates would be Vine and Douglas. Keep in mind the potted tree is almost a bonzai at this point... It has a trunk with bark and a small buttress beginning to form. The leaves are way smaller than they should be. They will continue to decrease in size the more I prune the branches and trim the roots.

Not Rocky Mt maple, certainly not vine. Most of the time leaves on a BLM have the center part of the leaf thinner between the two lobes on the mid rib. Think of a waist.. If really wanted I can snap a twig, take a photo and label it if you want. I have BLM and Vine's right out my door, but I'm on bouncing baby nap duty.

I thought rocky maples had red leaf stems? BLM seed are a tighter angle 30 degrees or so (most of the time)

Its a wild maple, of which there are only 3 here the the Shuswap... Vine, Douglas and rarely Big leaf, Big leaf only live around creeks and rivers here and are quite seldom seen.

Im going to repot this tree in the early spring next year. I plan to expose its main roots near the butt for added coolness, trim the roots and plant in a smaller pot. I want to make a mini tree out of it. I almost lost it last year, I pulled it out of the shade into direct sun and burned the leaves quite badly. It had a second bud break and managed to survive?

your second photo i'd say, kinda sorta maybe, the last says HELL no. Norway can be pretty invasive. No way it's any of the three you listed..
