Smooth cams and rope damage

Hi y'all, I want to dig through old posts and hear views in regard smooth cams like the Petzl macrograb holding heavy static loads, 700-1500lbs, on class 1 double braid. Thank you.

Before I knew better one crew I worked on would use this to attach a fiddle block to the pull line with two guys reefing on it, it must have seen close to the weights your talking about. No slipping, it did dent a kernmantle.
