Small pines -ornamental pruning

They took up most of my Friday. I'd not be surprised if,
between my Okatsune hand pruners, Corona loppers, Silky Zubat hand saw and pole saw,
and Marvin pole pruner, I made over 1000 cuts---per tree...what a job! But they now look great.
though almost totally lacking any interior foliage.

I've pruned these twice before, but not thoroughly,
as the tenants like them full to provide privacy. But
the trees were really a mess, incredibly dense, laden
with dead wood and crossing branches
As well, a major long heavy lateral had split and
hung down over the entry. I reduced it a lot and
kept it as it is a major part of the tree and adds
character. I spent over five hours working on these
two small pines, plus cleanup time.

I did a few other shrubs, and Halldin did a few, though he's a
pretty slow pruner. Can't complain about $1500 in 6.5 hours.....
didn't put my saddle on, or make more than 4 yards of chips....

looks good. Pines can be tricky, and look overly thin just from a thorough deadwooding. You balanced that line! $1500 man may be I should raise my rates

Actually, the job was $1600...... clearly a tad high. But yesterday, we wrecked a dead cedar in a super tight spot, then took down a birch with BBB, which had big long limbs.... $2700 and done by 5 pm... crew of 4 on cedar and 3 for birch. Paid $200 to my 81 yr old friend Bob to help, and then haul the wood..

And the birch is still a stick, but the new sawyer for Urban Hardwoods is going to mill it. I'll help and share the slabs. It will have a lot of character, and make some great live edge raw material in a couple years when its done drying.

The $ balance out. Tues-Wed I only did $1910-in two short workdays with just one groundie.
But the first customer, also a long time skiing acquaintance, offered me two extra tickets for a Mariners game.... in one of the Suites---Allstate's, who his company does biz with. Free food, a mini keg of Georgetown Brewery's finest. (I know the owner of that company... its the best or among the best of Seattle's breweries) Met an Allstate employee who is adding me to their list to contact for storm work... he's a skier as well, and will follow me on FB. Invited a gal who worked for me a few days.... too bad the M's lost and only had two hits....

Go Hawks!
