Small Grapple trailer

Im interested too. I know some guys who arent on here anymore ran them but seemed to go to grapple truck or different route quickly. Have you got a quote for something this size yet?

Just shy of $30k with tax and shipping and a 4,000# hydraulic boom mounted winch. They are having a spring sale until the end of May. Quite a bit of savings off retail.

I am currently loading logs on a flatbed trailer with a winch and a log arch.

I don’t have a CDL so a big truck is out of the question.

We were looking at them a few years ago. They were really expensive back then. I missed out on a nice used one due to cash flow. We wound up going with a reasonablely sized mini skid with dump trailer. In our area it seams more versatile being able to get things out of back yards and too the street. With the ability to just dump the load off it makes it so going back to get the mini isn’t terrible in most cases. And that also kinda fits our dump site requirements. We also have a number of log trucks for hire around that are easy to schedule.

If you go over 10,00o on the trailer you “need” the CDL too (that is if you ask the DOT guys). And a 10k trailer leaves no room for load when you have a heavy boom on it.

Only if the trailer puts the combined (Gross Combined Weight Rating or GCWR) is 26,001 lbs or over. If your tow vehicle has a GVWR of, say 13,000 and you have a trailer with a GVWR of 12,000 you don't need CDL...in most states...by the book. Doesn't mean nobody will write you a violation.

Likewise if your tow vehicle has a GVWR of 25,000 and your trailer is 10,000 you don't need a CDL. But a 16,000 lb GVWR rated truck pulling a 10,000 GVWR trailer does need a CDL because the combination goes over 26K AND the trailer is over 10K.

Bailey's sells grapple trailers. Have you looked there?

Looks like you're looking at a euro-trailer. Harder to quickly get replacement parts for it, possibly.

I have looked at the trailers through Brownwood sales in Ohio...but their website seems to be down.
Brownwood sales are good people, an older gentleman and his sister and (one of) their sons are the whole company... Call them up if you need anything!

I have a 10,000 GVW dump trailer, and a 7,000 GVW 16' beavertail trailer. I have taken my Kubota tractor to the job and used it to bring logs out and load on the flatbed, but I have to go back and get the tractor. A mini skid would be the same way. The grapple trailer would save a trip. Do the removal, chip brush and leave the log and bigger wood lay, go back with the grapple trailer and load up. Two trips to the job with the same truck. And since I have a sawmill I like to keep a lot of the logs 18' long, cant get that on my dump trailer.

If the logs are accessible with your trailer. A lot of ours are not, I just bid that extra trip into the job price and go back for the mini. I think with just a log trailer you will sometimes be wrassling with logs trying to get them to your trailer when a mini could be doing the work. However, it would be nice to have all the toys and just take whatever is appropriate for the job that day.
