Skilled or Entry-level Climber Wanted - Gap, PA

Reach

Been here much more than a while
Location
Atglen, PA
This is a job that is not for the fainthearted. We are looking for a climber to join our rapidly growing small tree service, a climber who is interested in not only a paycheck, but a career. The ideal candidate will have experience in all phases of tree work, but we are willing to work with a climber with a solid grasp of the basics and who is willing to learn the rest.

You will have the opportunity to do a variety of work every week, everything from pruning and thinning to rigging and crane removals, so no worries about getting bored with the same thing every day! Proper pruning techniques and basic rigging skills are important, and crane experience is a plus, but not necessary. We can teach you!

In exchange for your hard work, we will pay you a competitive wage, with one week paid time off to use whenever you wish, after you make it through your first three months here. We also provide you with a quarterly gear allowance at the arborist supply right down the street (Gap Arborist Supply!), and will happily pay for training to further your knowledge of the tree care industry! In return we ask for hard work and a reasonable amount of overtime during the week, with the option to work Saturdays during the busy season.

Good Luck. Good pool of applicants, here.

You might specify, your town/ city, how much is a 'reasonable amount of overtime', and how far in advance is this scheduled, and if Saturdays are 100% optional.

What does your state require for OT pay.

A link to your website would help. Posting pics of your work and equipment could help.

What a competitive wage in your area is, and what cost-of-living is, are very important.

Competitive wages can be crap or great. Around here competitive is not great. Owners can be cheap and dangerous...competitive wages, but hazardous work conditions. Personally, I seem to do work a lot different than competitors, for better and worse, but pay better, with more training, more responsibility, and much, much safer conditions.

@southsoundtree Thank you for the suggestions, I appreciate them very much and will be posting responses to all of them. There are many excellent members here, I have been following the Buzz for quite some time, but never got around to actually joining. However, now that I finally have, I intend to be an active participant in the future, to share what knowledge I have while I continue to learn from the many here who know much more than I.

The company name is Reaching Higher LLC, web address is www.rhtree.com; excuse the poor design, it is not an indicator of our work, and is in bad need of updating and a redesign by someone better at such things than I am.

Currently offering $20-25/hour to start, but for an exceptional climber would gladly pay more. Pennsylvania requires time and a half over 40 hours in a week, which we honor. Our typical work week is about 50 hours, Monday through Friday. I try hard not to schedule work on Saturdays; possible exceptions being emergencies or weeks where it rains for four days straight. However, Saturday work is always optional. I believe that time off to spend the money we make is important.

I will post some random photos shortly, and would appreciate feedback from anyone who cares to give some. Questions are also welcomed, as of course are interested climbers!

Here are a few sample photos of equipment and work; not all equipment shown is necessarily ours (the crane, for example), and not nearly all of our equipment is shown. If there’s anything specific anyone wants to see, just ask and I will post it if possible. @Reach; Really great photos, thanks for posting those!

Welcome to the TreeBuzz forum, I think you are going to like it here! Just in case you have not yet received a welcome. I think you are already a great addition to the membership, and I look forward to seeing more of your contributions in the future.

We are still trying to fill this position, if you are interested or know anyone send them this way! We would be happy to train a climber with minimal experience, and provide opportunities to grow with the company.

However, our ideal candidate is an experienced climber who would be interested in perhaps another few years of production climbing before transitioning to a position as in sales and/or training new climbers.

For the right candidate, all of the terms listed above are negotiable, and there are other unlisted small-company perks that come with the job, such as use of the shop for your own personal vehicle maintenance on evenings and weekends.
