Yes, anyone capable of doing the double braid splice can apply the same measurements to HRC. The splice finishes up quite nicely. However, this splicing technique is not yet approved by NER for this rope. As far as the general public is concerned this rope has not been tested this way. A standard double-braid-spliced HRC should be considered of dubious strength. It is an "unknown." High modulus fibers (like vectran and PBO- which HRC is made of) are VERY slippery...on a microscopic level. The double braid splice rely's completely on compression. The standard directions are designed for polyester, which isn't slippery and doesn't require buries quite so deep.
When splicing HRC or 8mm Beeline, stick with the manufacturer's directions: locked brummel on the core, 4-6" tail, whip the cover down at the base of the eye.
This begs the question, though. Why would someone want to splice it this way in the first place? If it to get the eye covered, that can be accomplished while still adhering to the manufacturer's directions.
Is there another reason?
