Simple climbing setup

Hey all been climbing for a long time, Ive had the lock jack for the last 15 years or so. I only climb a few times a month now and am looking for a replacement for the lockjack that is simple and safe. Its mostly for repelling after I spike up for a removals and tying in during a removal , not much rope ascending anymore. Should I go back to prusik with a hitch? I do still like the split tail, not going back to the old taut line hitch lol. Figured Id see what you guys are using since Ive been out of the new gear loop for a while.

I really like the hitch climber pulley set up. Simple and affordable. Tons of options in such an easy to use system. After finding the right cord/hitch/rope combo it tends super easy. On a spar you may want to use an adjustable friction saver for a fast rappel in an emergency.

Do I need a splice in my climbing line? Looks like a knot would interfere with the prusik? Using the old true blue line right now, any line suggestions / combos? I think I have some blue stripe somewhere too. The system looks very good , and not too pricey thank you for suggestions!

If you go hitch climber the eccentric is a pretty nice improvement on the already nice original version. If you're hitch-school trying knut distel michoacan with different #coils cord type eye-n-eye length can offer nice gains.

I wouldn't mess with the wife's (MRS) sisters (SRS) bad juju :)

zk2 probably best value - hitch more important than type of RW unless you're really heavy then tightening/adjusting your RW will help your hitch performance. good luck

Spliced line is recommended with hitch climber but I use a bowline tied to where it doesn’t interfere with the hitch. Used to use an anchor bend but started to get in the way sometimes. I tend to use a short hitch cord and keep tighter to the pulley with just enough slack to manipulate the hitch. Also good to tie the bowline where I trade ends of my rope to tie in between climbs and keep down wear on either end of the rope.

Also recommend checking out wesspur. Ordered a new rope and some other gear and got half off a rope bag today using a coupon code on their site. Always had good customer support and tons of options. Hyperclimb is an awesome rope especially for the price and works well with lots of hitch cords. I usually buy bulk cord and cut my own so I switch it up often. Really like beeline if I had to choose one.

Go with a splice and you take the worry out of a termination knot interfering with your hitch. And as someone else mentioned, you can’t go wrong with Samson Hyperclimb. Fantastic rope at a fantastic price.

I have been climbing regularly for ten years, but I am not a pro arborist, so don't let my opinion on tree gear carry nearly as much weight as the others here. But I feel compelled to throw out my experience with Hyperclimb for what it's worth and to see if anyone else had a similar experience. Based on the recommendations of others here, including rico whose opinion I highly value, I bought some Hyperclimb a while back, and I am sorry to say that this is the only rope I ever tried that I judged as unacceptable for my use. I got 200' and the first thing I did was milk it. I milked 3 feet the first pass, 2 more feet the 2nd pass, and nothing the third pass. Climbing primarily with a hitch/Rope Wrench (some Rope Runner Pro and Bulldog Bone) with it seemed fine at first, but the more I used it, the more it flattened to the point it was more like a ribbon than a rope. I could have tolerated that, but when my knee ascender would not grab it, I had enough. It's very aggravating trying to step up on a knee ascender that grabs the rope only half the time. I didn't have that trouble with the foot ascender, but that is always grabbing a loose rope, while the knee ascender is always grabbing a taut rope. If the ribbon isn't oriented just right, the cam wouldn't catch it. Maybe there is something I need to learn about climbing that prevents this, or maybe I got a bad batch of rope, but whatever, I have no use for it. If someone wants it, I will sell it cheap.

That doesn’t sound good. I’ve also read it’s pretty stretchy ? I’m used to true blue which I believe is pretty static compared to most new climbing lines ? Maybe I’ll consider another line or try a couple !

Hitch Climber set up with an adjustable retrievable friction saver. Add a Rope Wrench as needed for SRT and you have a system that could easily keep a climber happy for their entire career.
Rico uses friction savers!?
