There were two mostly hollow logs: The one that we rigged in order to cut the cable and the one it was cabled to. The big hollow one on the truck was the central-most leader, and had the squirrels in it.
Tough job, very well done. Ah fatigue, when the saw starts to weigh 40lbs., your lips are dry, and you just want to go home. Looked like a real tough position on that lift cut. In hindsight, could the central lead (or whatever you were tied in to) have been left taller for a better angle on your TIP?
Could have left the TIP higher, but we knew we were fighting time and daylight and wanted to get it down to the cables as soon as possible. We thought the cabled sections were going to give us more trouble.
Hey Tim, awesome pics and great job on the removal. I would have loved to have worked with you on that job.
I'm glad there were no injuries or property damage. I'm sure the decay in that wood made you wonder a bit.
That crane is SWEET! The crew that I've been doing ground work with this winter operate a 36 ton crane but that is tiny compared to the one you guys used on that job.
The crane company provided wire rope chokers. I think that the ones that we used on the larger pieces was 9/16" or 5/8" but I don't remember and don't have a good shot of one.
