Has anyone used this saw to know whether the top teeth are a plus or a negative? I'm using the Natanoko, Zubat, and Ibuki but since the blade replacement cost versus new saw is not a whole lot I thought I might try yet another one :) I've worn the plastic sheath out on my Natanoko and want another straight blade...

thanks!

I got one from Eugene last fall. During the winter I used it a few times. I like having the top teeth for undercuts but the bottom teeth are way TOO course. Every time that I use it the saw skips and jumps.

Having top teeth on a Zubat may be a nice option but it does make for a naked blade pointing towards rope and flesh.

I've never tried it for the following reason.

When I switch hands using a handsaw, the back of the blade is facing my climbing rope.
So IMHO there is no 'safe' zone on the Yamabico.

good point!

I agree with Tom, The bottom teeth are very course and do tend to chatter when I put a lot of pressure down on it. I really like the teeth on top for making undercuts. As far as not having a 'safe' zone, I have not nicked my rope (knock on wood) with the back side of this saw. I guess if I could choose I would like to have a Zubat with about 6 inches of the same cutting teeth on the top of the saw for undercutting.
