SIDNEY -- A Drummond Road man and his son both suffered electrical shocks Monday morning after the tree they were trying to cut down fell onto a power line outside their home.
Sidney Fire Chief Richard Jandreau said neither man suffered injuries serious enough to require medical treatment.

He said he did not know their names.

"You should never try to take down a tree by a power line," CMP spokesperson Gail Rice said, "unless you are specifically trained to do that."

Rice said CMP has a tree-trimming program aimed at eliminating branches that pose a hazard to power lines.

She said the father and son were lucky to avoid serious injury.

"That kind of voltage can be really serious," Rice said. "When something is in contact with a wire, the electricity will go through that object. (The electricity) is always trying to find the quickest route to ground."

Rice said the human body, which is mainly water, is particularly vulnerable to electrical currents given that water is a natural conductor.
