Sherrill Tree is Sold to Investment Co.

Seems like a lot of assumptions.

I don't see the latest Sherrill news as a good thing for arborist.
I agree...a lot of assumptions. However, it is a lot of assumptions to suggest it is bad for arborists too. I tend to be optimistic.

Only time will tell.

Hopefully somebody in the know will chime in!

Fortunately, if Sherrill does go downhill, there are several other options. But competition in the market place is generally a good thing for the consumers, so hopefully they stick around for a while.

I seriously doubt that any of the companies, under the Sherrill Tree umbrella (Treestuff, Climbstuff, etc.) now under the Platte River Equity umbrella, will be run independently anymore.
I would expect to see more new and re-branded products sold under the "Notch" brand.
The new owners will be expecting to see a return on their investment so you can imagine what that means for product pricing and quality.
Hopefully they will invest some money on improving Customer Service and having ample items kept in stock.
That seems to have gone to heck over the past year or so.
I miss the way Treestuff used to be and now doubt it will ever return to being that great company it was to deal with.

In the arborist retail business I think it's important to have a close connection with it's customers.

An investment firm is NOT going to be able to do that.

On a side note, what's with Treestuff not having a lot of things in stock? "order now and wait 12 weeks"

I like your optimistic approach! I believe PRE's goal is to generate risk-adjusted returns for their investors by growing revenue (increasing margins/increasing productivity) via strengthening Sherrill's existing (and potential) relationships & instituting lean manufacturing/continuous improvement practices for all of their current and future manufacturing facilities. All of this so PRE is able to flip the company (Sherrill Inc if it is still going to be called that) for a profit to another similar firm in 5-8 years (that firm will do the same, etc. etc.).

That said, if one does not want to support PRE, they should spend their arb money elsewhere and not give in to those awesome deals! There is power in numbers - spend wisely.

I think the deal with Platte River Equity is gonna be great for consumers and employees together. We’ve got a lot of big plans & improvements coming.

If your curious I encourage you to give any of our employees a call, and ask them directly how it affected them. Our folks are pretty straightforward. Our office numbers are on the websites.

As always you can reach me at nick@treestuff.com or by cell at 440.989.0444

David is spot on here with one exception
IMO. Platte River Equity May be a majority shareholder, but Sherrill Inc is composed of a wide range of working, employee stakeholders who have dedicated major portions of their lives to serving the arborist community (think 10-30 years). Those are the people you should care about supporting.

You said the same when Treestuff sold to Sherrill.. Honestly, I’ve seen little than watered down piss beer since.. dude on Facebook just said his Black Friday order came in, WTF?! I ordered through Wesspur, there was a snap which stated “out of stock” by 10am the next morning I had a call, letting me know when it’s coming in, and that the just got off the phone with their supplier.
ITS ALWAYS BEEN THAT WAY! Not perfect, not ass kissing, not bribing loyalty, but stand up solid business

Use that investment money to get your house in order first.
Address the issues with stock, customer service communications, and guidance on product availability that have gone on for far too long Nick.
I read all your forum posts and you never seem to acknowledge the problems or be sincerely apologetic in any of them.
I think if you were honest (starting a long time ago) about any problems Treestuff was experiencing or dealing with, the community would have rallied around you.
I don't think any one takes what you say seriously anymore.
Use this investment opportunity to turn that around.

I doubt anyone in the world is more aware of the issues we have than me. I’ve been on the front line at treestuff for 5 years.

I’ve openly acknowledged our shortcomings on stock and responsiveness many times in print and with the numerous customers I’ve spoken to directly on the phone, when they call me and talk to me face to face.

We are working feverishly to get more stock and it shows in our on time fill rates, NPS ratings and plenty of other metrics that we track very closely.

As I’ve said hundreds if not thousands of times, if anyone has individual or broader scale customer concerns they can call, text or email me... anytime.
