Sherrill Tree 150% price guarantee?

I called Sherrill out on some prices that are advertised in Wesspur less expensive. In particular the 20 feet of Yale 8mm Beeline and 120 foot hank of Yale Blaze. Their response was that they could not match or beat Wesspur's price because Wesspur get's the product for cheaper then they do.???

Below is cut and pasted from their web site, In my mind it sounds like false advertisment!

<font color="red"> </font> Crushing Prices
Found another retailer announcing $10 off SherrillTree’s already low price? Call us, we'll make it $15 off, that's how our 150% price crushing guarantee works.
As any market leader will attest, it's common for low-ranking competition to selectively snipe item prices and declare themselves king of the price game. Our method of defense against this tactic is simple - increase their sacrifice and your savings to 150%!

SherrillTree's 150% Price Guarantee will crush any competitor's price, PERIOD. If you find a lower currently advertised price, in print or on the web from another arborist supply company, we'll CRUSH IT.

We make it easy. Just provide the details, we confirm it, and you will receive your new CRUSHED price. Usually we can do this while you are on the phone. It's that easy.

This effort is applicable for products of equal make, model, and by the same manufacturer. Prices must be current and in print (for confirmation purposes). Offer good through SherrillTree online and mail-order only, retail locations may or may not participate.

At one point I heard the paper way to prove it was a major headache. They don't match it with their guarantee then go with the person that has it cheaper.

I've done the 150% thing a couple of times mostly without a hassle. PM Tobe and ask him what's up. Sometimes the CSR's can be too strict in their interpretation of the policy.

Already done order from Wesspur!

Timberjack.

Two words. Treestuff.com

Lukes the man and doesn't need a gimmicky "150% price match". He also doesn't make you do the leg work to find a good deal. He almost always has better prices

Also. They don't preach bull$hit alliby about a crappy itialian company that sells crap equipment and doesn't support us or our profession.

I could not agree more about treestuff.com. They are the best. Also, they have started to carry New Tribe stuff. Support a company of arborists!

Just got my tree stuff order today! I have to say they are top notch however i still have some loyalty to WesSpur they have always been great, I just have to wait a week to get my stuff from them and 2 days from treestuff. If WesSpur wasn't on the other side of the country they would have 100% of my orders.

IMO both companies are a model of how things should be done in our tight knit community.

Both Wesspur and Treestuff are good people and amicable competitors. The blend of personalities in this industry are a unique reflection of the American business culture, of which we should all be thankful to play a part. I applaud those of you who stand by your allegiances, for without them SherrillTree would be just another stand on the corner.

Unfortunately, Timberjack's post is beyond my explanation. Even I don't know what Wesspur pays suppliers, so can't explain how my cs rep might know. I wonder; how would a vendor benefit from telling me the lower price my competitor pays? Higher, maybe.

As for the price guarantee, my strict policy is "make it as quick and easy as possible for the customer, and at no time should they feel ashamed for asking."

Further more, our price guarantee is not perfect but I'm as proud of it as any idea we've hatched. You name the market segment and i can show you a seller trying to make a name for himself by splashing his lost leader in the face of every bleary-eyed shopper. The internet's full of them. Our prices are and always have been highly competitive, even the most nettlesome discounters recognize this fact ...because they've told me.

If you honestly want to boil down the difference in SherrillTree and "others" in our market segment, it's not a buck-fifty difference in a $60 pulley, it's passion for what YOU GUYS do ...and trees. It's leaving home when we really don't want to for ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT at industry events. It's financial donations to worker safety and training. It's investment in product development for BETTER TOOLS. It's a CATALOG process like no other that takes several of us months to crank out and costs umpteen thousands of YOUR DOLLARS ...well, maybe not your guys' dollars...

The point being, that i realize this stuff isn't important to everybody, but it is to ME. If paying the buck-fifty for that odd item is really that tough for someone I would hope they could just go elsewhere and not beat us up over it.

Anyway, sorry about the hassle TJ, perhaps you'll give us a shot on some other occasion. As for the thread, thanks for lending me the opportunity to explain our position.

Here's to the Buzz.

Do I go to Sherrill's every time I have an order? No. Not everyone has what I need so I gotta go with who has what.

That being said I gotta say I have 3 catalogs on my desk.
WesSpur, Baileys, and Sherrill's. Sherrill's Stands out above both Bailey's and WesSpur Figuratively and Literally with WesSpur getting better every year. And I gotta respect Tobe coming on here and standing by the price guarantee.

So I got an order I'm putting in to Sherrill's in the coming week even though I have to pay sales tax folks outside NC don't.
Because A: I like supporting NC companies
B: Since Sherrill's has free shipping on 99+ that makes up for the tax.
C: I've wanted to try the price crusher out for a couple of weeks before this thread so now is as good a time as any.

PS: Tobe, I will more than happy to pitch in $10 extra for the catalog after I crush a price on my next order.

I was a Wesspur customer for a while, until I attended a rigging seminar put on by Sherrill and Vermeer. Sure the $50 was a small hit, but for what I learned and the reinforcement of prior knowledge I will be spending most of my tree dollars at Sherrill. Thanks Tobe for being a part of what makes my liveing and keeps me safe.

Thanks for what you do for our industry, Tobe.

It may sound silly to some, but as a newbie in this industry, your catalogue has been a big part of my arborist education so far.

A lot of people have learned a LOT of stuff from the Sherrill Tree Catalog.

I don't think it serves anyone to bust a vendor over price. If you dont like the price, shop elsewhere. Sherrill takes a lot of flack for being imperfect but they have long been a contributor to worker safety and training, TCC sponsership and general advancement of arboriculture as a true profession.
While i don't care for the end result of the Kong ring fiasco, Sherrill led the effort to get those stinking shower curtain rings out of climber's kits and I think that deserves our attention.

I reserve most of my rope orders for Knot and Rope Supply, most of my chainsaw supply orders for Baileys (cuz Oregon stuff doesn't work for me). Everything else I get from Sherrill or Treestuff. I usually buy from whoever has most or all of the stuff on my list in stock.
I think Wespur is a great company, so is Bishop but they're far away and shipping from them to me is slower. Still, I have to buy something from Wespur every year to make sure I get the catalog stickers. This year I think it'll be the HC rope bag.

I started buying from Tobe when the whole show was just Tobe. His booth at a trade show was a couple of tables and stands. I've always been satisfied with the company's service. Its been cool to see his company grow.

In no way shape or form do I hope this endorsement will get me a free T-shirt.

I've had absolutely no problem with the price guarantee. I've even used it on repeat orders

I think I would agree with Blinky most of all. I too have preferred vendors for certain things.if that is all I am ordering.

Generally I shop my 4 main vendors whenever I am putting together an order and I tend to go with the vendor who has the best overall cost and with most of the items I want. Sherrills frequently ends up on top with most of those orders, especially when I have found some price smasher items.

Anyhow, competition is important and bashing one vendor over the other really serves no purpose. It is much like relationships, sometimes personalities just don't click. No harm, no foul, just the way it is sometimes.

There are definitely some vendors I just can't work with but that doesn't mean they won't work out for someone else.

I just ordered chipper knives from Sherrill. They came on time but slightly dinged up and hanging out of the box. I cannot believe someone loose packed 22 lbs of sharp steel! I think a call is in order. The UPS guy was pissed, as he should be. All other orders have shipped without a hitch.

I've used the price crusher 3 times and never really had a problem. Once I had to sit on the phone win the lady for about 45 minutes with a calculator in my hand working with her to figure out the prices (I think she was new to the whole deal) but all in all it was anlearning experience for us both lol.

Thanks Tobe for everything and seeing as how my company has an account with you guys and I can payroll deduct my gear you will get the majority of my business (I have to order from treestuff also Luke has been a solid business owner and always throws in freebies and even sent me a free shirt those are the things you don't forget.
