sharpening chipper knives

my boss showed me a neat technique that doesnt change the temper of the knives. we used a belt sander with 80 grit and it worked like a charm with alittle elbow grease and a few minuts. i thought id share this info for those of you who wanna save some $$$ in between sending them in to get sharpened.

the belt sander doesn't create the kinda heat that will cause your blades to loose thier temper and crack.

the type of machine is a table top belt sander. you hold the blades upside down and sand the blade of the knife. if it starts getting hot in your hand you back off and wait a few seconds then go back to sanding.
just try it. i know it sounds like alot of work but its way way cheaper the sending them off to a place to have them properly sharpened. it works! :)
