sharp ring on treemotion

[ QUOTE ]
One of the reasons for the hold-up isthe fact that feedback is being taken seriously, has to be analysed and acted upon.

What are some of the things that you are considering changing? It would be nice for owners of the first generation of tM to know what was modified.

Mahk,

at this point in time we're not discussing a second generation treeMOTION. All it may involve is minor tweaks to the existing design. Depending - as I posted earlier - on feedback from the first batch.

Just to give you an idea of numbers, of the five hundred harnesses so far delivered, we've had five returned. Of those five the damage on at least one looks like a colision between the webbing and a handsaw. So that makes less than 1%.

But yes, we will be playing this one in an open fashion, as we have been all along. We will keep you posted on the way it all progresses.

Hope that answers you question - in a round-about way.

500 sales already, congratulations guys!

Take a piece of very fine sanding paper and see if you can polish the 'letterbox' shaped opening where the webbing is going through. I think that one of the five harnesses that went back to Teufelberger is mine. I was too late in noticing that the 'letterbox' opening still had a small sharp piece of forging metal left in there. This had cut my webbing fairly far away. Not critical though. Just inspect your equipment on a regular base and you will find defects long before they get serious.

I want to comment about the buckle too. There is IMO nothing wrong with the buckle but with the place where it is used.
When I put on a regular harness I just breath in so my 'big belly' makes room for a comfy closing of the buckle. The treeMOTION is so low on my body that I have to 'force' the buckle to close (there's nothing to give in on my hipbone). You really have to be sure to have heard the second click and you must VISUALLY inspect the correct closing.

Don't keep yourself from buying the best harness, just make sure that these two items are on your top priority list to check.

As Mark said five out of five hundred. On a newly designed harness that's a fair scoring isn't it?

You can see how is has warped and melted.

I wouldn't call that warped and melted. Normal matting and creasing of the webbing. Mine looks like that as well, no problem.

Being this thread has been up for a while could someone from the TM team let us know if what we are seeing is normal wear or not. Figured you guys have climbed in them a bit longer and know how it wears.

SHARP???? Bit strong isn't it chaps?? I'm seeing fibre compression and mild glazing but we're not talking 'knife through butter' here are we!! More like Ferrari tyre wear!!!
Don't get me wrong, I respect your concerns and obviously each of us lucky enough to climb in a Treemotion will wear/wear it out it differently but i'm wondering if this is a bit of a 'fresh scratch on a new car' knee jerk reaction or a legitimate safety concern??
I'm sure time will tell and so will the TM collective if issues arise as will the Buzzers !!!!

Indeed, Stephen, I absolutely agree that this needs to be carefully monitored on all levels and at the same time not blowing it out of proportion.

The webbing use for class 3 PPE (equipment used in situations or activities where failure could lead to serious or fatal injuries) has to be system 3 webbing. This is the case on treeMOTION. System 3 webbing acts like rip-stop nylon with cut resistant threds woven into the webbing. If you tension the webbing and nick the edge with a sharp object these will prevent it from tearing all the way through. This would be the case with lower grade webbing.

So "like a knife through butter" just isn't possible.
