Sharp edges on Petzl gates.....

i use two Petzl O crabs for my Hitchclimber system. I noticed the hinge side of the gate has some edges that are not razor sharp but theres enough edge to cut rope. So when i rotate the bottom crab to hook to my saddle, the eyes of my hitch are scary close to those sharp edges! I retired a hand spliced Beeline hitch because the strands looked to be damaged. So far, a stitched eye seems to not be affected......yet. I have been considering switching out to DMM.

Hmmmm, interesting. Ill give the DMM a try amd see how it goes. I guess im just looking to buy more gear! I have a thread about harness' in the climbing forum. Torn between MCRS and the Tree Motion

I just dug my Petzl O out, no sharp edges on the gate but I can see where it could be sharp if the factory finishing wasn't quite up to snuff. You could smooth the edge down with emery cloth or whatever you got that's a fine abrasive, maybe a careful touch with a Dremel etc.

Thanks. Ive had these biners for several years now so i doubt they can be returned. i think the rubber thing spacing the eye from the gate and possibly a light kiss with the dremel will put my mind at ease. The biners have been flawless but those edges have always been a concern to me. Coming from a Fire Dept background, i always check and recheck my gear before every climb. Lately, i wouldnt rotate the lower biner on my climbing system to keep those edges away from my eye n eye.

I hope it works out for you. I was going to suggest a rubber trap until I reread that you rotate your carabiner. I've seen electrical tape wrapped many times to create a stopper also.
