Sg40 Bandit Stump Grinder

Anybody have one of these? We are thinking about buying one for our tree service. We have subbed a bunch in the past but having subs with no workmans comp creates insurance issues. We have a grinding head I built for our mini ex but it keeps eating hydraulic motors. We also want something that will fit through gates as our mini ex is 68 inches wide. I'm not crazy about having a gas engine. The only one I have now is our log splitter. Efi makes me a bit more receptive.

They did some upgrades/fixes from the previous model. One being the belt tension setup and the other is moving to a new river cutter head compared to the previous green teeth. The new machine we have is much better, the new river teeth hold up much better, and there are more than double the number of teeth compared to the old style which I think had only 4 a side?

Solid machine for maneuverability when we don’t need the sg75 for the big jobs.

They still have a wheel with green teeth. That's what's in stock at our local dealer on the tracked sg40. The new revolution wheel is a $900 upgrade and teeth are 50% more per. We were thinking about running a rhino wheel. The dealer has a wheeled sg40 with the new revolution wheel on it but wont swap it. Instead wants to order me another machine at a 9 to 12 week wait and $850 more shipping since it's not a stock order.

How many hours do you have on yours? How frequently do you have to replace belts?
Nearly 1800 hours
I think jack shaft to cutter head belt 2 and 1 on clutch to jack shaft the small engine drive belt never my clutch is wearing in but this thing with sharp teeth and properly adjusted belts will cut a stump like a new machine
The jack shaft belt gets near the action with force and debris so that side gets pulled cleaned more frequently the opposite side belt from clutch to jack shaft is more adjusted over time. Once a week take off covers clean inspect and check belt tension no problem

How do you like the sg 75 any design flaws stick out during usage?

The controller takes a minute to get a rhythm but it's pretty amazing. The direct drive is a pretty solid setup I think. Sharp teeth makes it pull super long ribbons.

The back blade is also nice for pushing the pile.

No flaws at all from what I've seen. The boss is pretty religious with touching teeth up. Uses a diamond blade attachment on the angle grinder. But with so many teeth it spreads the wear out and they stay pretty darn sharp.

We have a few ash stumps to grind tomorrow I'll try and snap a picture.

Not sure if the video will load… but we smashed through three decent sized ash stumps.

First one was maybe 30” at the flush cut and we ground a 6’x6’ swath in about 40 minutes. The teeth were touched up but not the sharpest ever.

That machine only has about 140hrs on it.
