They've not changed the 335/338 muffler design since the saw debuted in ~1996. I had one of the very first, back when they were horrible.
This old, poorly focused image shows where a 9/16th i.d. tube should be brazed to the muffler. That's the proper size. I think I have an extra muffler that worthaug could have for about $40.
A simple muffler mod is all that needs to be done, besides retuning the carb, to give them 20-35% more power. I've had a couple of them woods ported, but it's a waste of $... Can't change the compression on a clamshell design crankcase. I've had many fully woods ported saws. Some, like the Husky 346, 357, and 372's, can cut 40-60% faster with ease. And my 3120 is still going strong after 13 years. It's hard to lean into it enough to slow it down, even when it's sporting its normal 42" bar.

That's too much. Put the deflector back on, after carefully dremeling it open..and bending it a bit. That will also deflect the exhaust down and away. I have run 192's for years--gutless until the muffler is opened up.

Okay, I have two Stihl ms192t saws I want to modify. Any tips/advice as to how to make these things run better for this specific saw?

Hey Mike, I have a ms 193 which is the same thing but newer. I posted a pic on page 1 of what i did to mine. It rips now!! I had a 16" bar on it just for fun today and did a large ash removal with it. I burried the bar and it did great! i would put it up against a stock 201T...

Open up the exhaust outlet and re tune the carb. Muffler mods (muff mod/MM'd) are the simplest way to increase power in a saw. Just make sure you are comfortable with tuning before you open up the exhaust port. Improper tuning can kill your saw.

I didn't notice how much you had cut that open. That is a large port, once you get to big the flow becomes so great that you will wast fuel or reduce the amount of fuel in the combustion chamber.
So put the deflector back will help with fuel consumption and it could actually increase power, as you are probably losing fuel charge because of the size of your port.
Try an experiment, put the deflector back on and open it up a bit at a time. And do a few test cuts in between.

ok thanks. i cut a bunch with it out of the bucket and didnt notice to much fuel loss. i put the deflector back on. i might open it a little at a time like you said. Thanks

yes its a little oily inside. not alot but def a little wet.
