They've not changed the 335/338 muffler design since the saw debuted in ~1996. I had one of the very first, back when they were horrible. There are two types of muffler that came on the 338.

I recently tapped my muffler hole out bigger on my ms 193. what a difference!!! Anything else to do after this?
Hey Mike, I have a ms 193 which is the same thing but newer. I posted a pic on page 1 of what i did to mine. It rips now!! I had a 16" bar on it just for fun today and did a large ash removal with it. I burried the bar and it did great! i would put it up against a stock 201T...Okay, I have two Stihl ms192t saws I want to modify. Any tips/advice as to how to make these things run better for this specific saw?

I didn't notice how much you had cut that open. That is a large port, once you get to big the flow becomes so great that you will wast fuel or reduce the amount of fuel in the combustion chamber. Thanks Roger. Will that cut back on power tho? Its def loud. But not a big deal with hearing protection.
cool, so are you putting the deflector back on after and opening that up a little? Or just wide open like shown?I recently tapped my muffler hole out bigger on my ms 193. what a difference!!! Anything else to do after this?
Thanks Jack...Open up how much? Like Jeremy's ms193?Open up the exhaust outlet and re tune the carb. Muffler mods (muff mod/MM'd) are the simplest way to increase power in a saw. Just make sure you are comfortable with tuning before you open up the exhaust port. Improper tuning can kill your saw.
