Saw lanyard review

Serf Life

Been here much more than a while
Location
Maine Island
Few from Arbsession of varying vintage. Many out there and countless homemade options. Here’s a few specs and comparisons on just 3:

Weaver bungee with snap: $25
-34-42”
- basic, hard wearing, brass snap
-annoyingly short for longer reach
Elevation Canada: $27
-36-68”
-longer at rest, thin, quality biner
-ample reach for 6’ span
-more jolt than recoil if dropping saw
Recoil Full Reach: $55
-29-94”
-impressive bungee, much thicker
-more resistance with reach
-doesn’t come with snap
-fouls more than others on gear

I was expecting to love the full reach but, so far, wouldn’t buy again. It is nice with a bigger saw if you let it hang or if it was dropped, and seems well made. The cheapo Weaver will last forever but too damn short. They are actually pretty useful for roofing work though or some cabling if needed. The Elevation Canada has been surprisingly good and great reach. I like that it is thinner and doesn’t get caught in caritool/transporter etc as much as the recoil. Also the captured biner is a nice addition.

I have a couple of the Elevation Canada, and had the Weaver before. I had wondered about that coiled bungee, and how that would behave over time. I the EC the best so far.

Yea saw lanyards suck man. Idk why somebody cannot just come out with a simple elastic design that breaks away. To me the break away is most important. So I rescently got some "tool carriers or leashes" one from stien and the other from edelrid that both were 25 and basically the same product. I haven't had much use yet but now they both seem to be not break away and way stronger than saw lanyards but are tiny little short things that I don't think give me the reach I want. Again haven't put em through the places yet but I like the recoils but they always snag on shit and aren't long really.
I think I'm just going to implement my own breakaway little 75lbs nite size.
I feel you man ...best saw lanyards are homenade

I've never been a fan of saw lanyards in general. Didn't use one for a while then I discovered the SNAKE, which is probably the best one ever made. Unfortunately, during COVID they ran into supply problems and it looks like they stopped manufacturing them.

There might still be the odd one floating around out there: https://russopower.com/products/at-...HMb4QiCGigqR_UB-lRvRENLjnBmgTSogVcJnihYWqS7AF

Right now I just use a standard Reecoil lanyard. It's ok. Once it breaks I'll probably just make my own.

I’ve had the full reach and couldn’t stand the coils getting snagged by everything, I’ve ran the notch “cinch” lanyard since its release and I’ve appreciated its low profile but it’s just a saw lanyard not earth shattering but does give my 36” reach full reach. Am starting to look into break aways simply for safety reasons but not in a particular hurry.

I use to use the weaver straight (no bungee) and found it way too short and an epic pain to take on and off the dee ring of the saw.
So I added the short loop on that just lived on the saws. I really liked this setup and it provided enough room to use the short one like a handle which made for super easy stow unstow.
Made quite a few of my own and likely will go back to that.
Rocked the tulfurbuger one until it sucked into the clutch cover..
Now using this one.. I like it as it has good reach and isn’t cumbersome but it’s on the thin side are relies on the split rings as break aways rather it had a little more bulk as I do juggle the saw relying on gripping the lanyard. The break away is too light imo for anything heavier than a 500i even then I avoid letting it take the full weight without it being short hauled https://www.wesspur.com/tango-slim-chainsaw-strap

I second the Drayer tango slim for use with a climb saw and mid size saw. One of the best lanyards that I’ve had. I also use a recoil when switching to a heavier saw and just deal with the snagging, not ideal but it works.

Cheapo weaver bungee for me. Only use the recoil on rear handled saws… I figure once the bigger saw comes out, there’s less shit for it to foul up on. Absolutely hate it on a top handle.
