Saddle.

I just purchased one of the Versatile Saddles with the hard bosun seat from Sherrill. I also ordered the plastic rollers to make this a floating D style set up. ANyone else use this saddle and set up?

My first saddle was the versatile with the hard bosun seat, the same one you describe. I started out using the saddle with the plastic rollers but quickly decided that using the static attachment points on the saddle would be more comfortable. I didn't feel that the rollers were the smoothest for sliding d's and also the length of the leather strap used on the versatile saddle for the attachment points seems to put the rollers right at nipple level. Not a problem, until you get your nipple stuck between the roller and the leather strap, while you are rotating on the sliding d. This happened more than once for me so I quickly adopted a new method of attaching to the saddle. I do think that you can become quite comfortable climbing in a saddle with a static attachment point, it's just a matter of what you get used to.
I did really like the versatile saddle while I used it and I still climb on it when I can.

I can't imagine why it rides up so high, it must be a Versatile thing. My weaver floating dee hits me at mid belly, nowhere near my nipples.
I would try the rollers out.

I have the Pro Series Versatile and I usually end up fastening to the loops on the strap because I found the rolling carabiners would side load far too often but I do like the action of the rollers when they work properly.
I also have the bosun but don't use it.
I bought it because I thought I could use the seat when suspended off a utility strand but suspension trauma sets in so I use a seat secured to the strand rather than me.
I've only used the seat once.

I have the versatile with the bounson seat.i use the front lops for attachment points .don't like the rollers to much .i think its a good saddle.it would be nice if you could change out the seat for leg straps for change sometimes.

Yeah i also have this saddle. go ahead and try out the floating d, but i bet, like me, you'll soon see that experimenting with the static loops is just so much better.

Stickman,
The Pro Series seats can be interchanged. You can get Bosun or independent legs and they change out it minutes.
Kevin,
Can you explain what you mean by, "use a seat secured to a utility strand rather than to me"? --I thought the Bosun seat would eliminate partly any suspension trauma setting in--yes/no?
Thanks.

Charlie;
I work as a cable repairman for a telecom utility and sometimes the cable gets damaged mid span and it's easier to run the strand looking for and repairing damages.
The cable is lashed to a steel support strand and can be used a zip line in rough terrain..

I found with all my weight hanging in the saddle, even with the bosun for too long I get feeling sick, not a good idea.

"The cable is lashed to a steel support strand"

It takes extremely less to physically damage a communications "cable" than the wire rope to which it's lashed.

It is a fair question, though.

I'd imagine in part what he's talking about might be simply re-lashing them together. Ever see the device they use to do that? It's pretty trick.

It could be water inside the cable, broken lashing wire as Glens mentioned, could be lightning damage or it could be more serious such as blasting damage or a power contact where you would suspect strand damage.
The strand test is done with a rope over the strand at mid span and secured to something solid on one side as you put your body weight on the other end of the rope and bounce to test the strand.
If it was real suspect I would drop the cable to the ground and then relash it afterwards.
