Just the broke student tenant. And the owner is basically a low margin landlord so not interested in spending money. [emoji53]OP, are you the tenant or the owner?
Yeah I said Live Oak simply because there are many around here but have not identified.Live oak? I disagree, leaves look wrong unless I'm seeing incorrectly. I agree with the crown reduction and guying.
Don't have just any "arborist" look at it though.
Look into someone who is specialized in evaluating trees. Where are you located? This might help you find someone in your area. Be willing to pay a consultation fee, as that is what you need. Otherwise you most likely will get a removal specialist

So as long as all costs are zero, the tree must be preserved "all all costs"![]()
It IS the internet after all, what do you expect?I've noticed lately a lot of homeowner joes (and tenant joes for that matter) coming in the buzz, looking for free advice or evaluations. I know we all instinctively want to be helpful, but if we give our professional knowledge, opinions and recommendations away for free......well, we've just devalued our profession to zero, while giving Joe the impression "Why pay for a professional evaluation, these guys can just phone it in." The last half dozen or so of these scenarios I've seen in here, my thought for an answer was "Call a consulting arborist who specializes in tree risk assessment, and pay them to give you a professional evaluation of your tree." Followed in my best Foghorn Leghorn "Now go 'way kid, ya bother me!"
You can get rid of vines and keep trees they are 2 plants in the same space. I take off wild grape all the time it will smoother and kill anything we have here, the only effective buckthorn control for sure. But lots of times vines are not wanted so go ahead and cut them they aren't the tree.Big cuts lead to a little rot lead to various degrees of arborphobic hysteria. Another arboreal victim of ISA myths aka "Removal cuts are better than reduction cuts" etc.
Cutting the vines off was your first mistake.
We mainly have wild grape, Virginia creeper and poison ivy for the worst vines hereBe glad you don't have kudzu. It's only saving grace is that the first frost nails it
I agree, but I also think it depends on the spirit in which someone is asking.I've noticed lately a lot of homeowner joes (and tenant joes for that matter) coming in the buzz, looking for free advice or evaluations. I know we all instinctively want to be helpful, but if we give our professional knowledge, opinions and recommendations away for free......well, we've just devalued our profession to zero, while giving Joe the impression "Why pay for a professional evaluation, these guys can just phone it in." Difference clear as mud really; lots of info requests turn into jobs. I agreee generally re devaluation by freebies, but i still like giving away a 3-minute e-consult based on pics. Also agree re saying 'hire a pro, on site', but I don't see much value added by someone saying they are TRA specialists.OP wasn't asking for an estimate. The information they requested fell entirely into the realm of consultation. Surely Guy, you of all people would know the difference.
