Rosemary in the upper midwest

I lived in Georgia for 5 years where rosemary is an evergreen shrub and now that I'm back in the midwest, Chicago, I can't remember if it's a woody perennial here or not. Can anyone tell me if I should get it in the ground and hope it comes back next year?
