Ropetek Wraptor

I don’t own one, so I can’t be certain, but it’s just a 2 stroke “weed wacker” motor- right? I’d think the basics like carb, fuel and air filters, etc are possible to find, even if not specifically made for Tanaka. (Maybe not?). Also likely that the drum and gearing are simple/robust and less likely to fail compared to the motor. Since it’s not the type of machine that gets used all day every day I’d expect it to have a pretty long service life. It would see, what, an hour of use per week max in most cases?

(As I type this it occurs to me the fact that I’m even asking these questions means that YES- availability of replacement part does affect value:nocausagracia:).

I think you're right about most parts being more easily accessed Bucknut. The one thing that may not fall in that category is the rope friction "pully". I bought a spare at one point but suspect I'll never need it or use it in my lifetime.

The one person that I heard of wanting to replace that part did so with three people using it many hours each week. And they work in wet a lot with ropes getting gritty from silt/sand.

Something good about having a Wraptor around is not necessarily regular use, but the occasional use where it is really needed, especially so with modern Rope Walking gear.

A sore joint or other injury is a great time to have a Wraptor.

Short-handed for the day? The climber can easily come down, help, and go back up.

Hot like crazy one day? Come down, cool off, gear up with something else, like a bigger saw and bigger rigging gear and go back up without breaking a sweat.

The last time that I can think of using mine was a large storm-damaged doug-fir with some easy to read needs. 90-100' TIP, top-handle, 2 longer rigging ropes, one shorter rigging rope, small POW, rigging ring/ sling, 80' lanyard (long limb walk). EZPZ, everything in the tree in one shot, letting the groundworker carry on with other prepping needs.

I'm talking about the redwood top in Jerry B's classic poster cut at 150ft. up. The one where he has a cast on his foot.

Ha at my ripe old age, I love my Raptor. I don't think I will ever sell it. I set it up on a retrievable pulley and let non tree people ride up a tree then I lower them on a porty

Paul Cox the inventor is a genius

Just for grins and giggles I did a quick search and it appears that the engine and dang near every part in it are readily available so repairs if needed wouldn't really be an issue on these 2 stroke machines.
I am not for certain but I would venture a guess that any other part for these would be available from ropetek!!!
If I did not have one I would be very tempted to pick this one up!!

I feel like its just a matter of time before someone who is looking for one comes across this and scoops it up
