Ropetek Wraptor redesign

No way. Way to complicated and dangerous.
I know it would be challenging to address all the safety issues, etc.

Another suggestion is to integrate the hardware into a device that can run off commercially available and approved electric power drills. Other buzzers in here know what I'm talking about, because they've already built these bad-boys from re-purposed components.

I can't find it right now, but there is a fall arrest company that has basically that without the powered Ascent. Basically it's a battery self tailing belay with a remote so when you get to the top and want to decend you remotely switch it over to debt mode that locks you off if you decend too rapidly

I think camp safety makes it

I would like the pull cord more to the bottom so it is easier restart while aloft.
perhaps some spherical shroud around the bottom to help it slide past obstacles while being lowered.

I love this thing. Best investment I've made in a long time.

Also, while the ability to work/decent off of the wraptor is I'm sure nice, having the decent portion built into the ascender, would allow for escape in the event of catastrophic failure of the wraptor, where it will no longer stay stationary on the line
Just throw a Taz Lov2 on top of the wraptor, then you have a certified backup device that can also serve as a descender.

How about down the lines of a Lewis Winch, but optimized for this purpose? Make it mount to a small powerhead. Then the end user could choose batteries or liquid fueled.

I have never been a fan of basal anchors

Coming down is easy but the beauty of the wraptor IMO is its complete safety due to the reason it can't come down.

So I'm sending a desire for battery powered?? Obviously doable

The Tanaka powered drills, how much different are they than the Stihl drill?

The only complaint I have with mine is the need to carry straight gas on the truck in addition to mixed.

Obviously I’m in the minority here, but the battery powered sounds like Additional liability & limited compatibility timeline.

It seems Batteries keep evolving at warp speed compared to much of the other tech.

I don’t mean to throw a wet blanket on battery powered, but I believe waiting till the battery tech plateaus a bit might not be a bad idea.

Straight gas ? What burns straight gas ?

I would never carry straight gas and jeopardize every saw I own! I fill mine up at home and if it runs out put mix in it.
I keep separate cans on the truck (got a generator with lights for emergency work). Both labeled, in separate locations with the straight gas hidden under a some other stuff. Any time my non regular guy fools anything I make sure to specifically tell them which can, then ask which one they used when they send me the saw. Have yet to have someone goof in 6 years

Paul
so sorry to hear about your friend, I loved seeing his shop,
that guy could make anything,

My raptor sits in a box mostly - comes out for rec climbing - couldn't ever see selling it.
great tool - I have no clue how to help you
I know if your mind improves Gen2 , it will be even greater

GRCS, Raptors, Sennas, Mini forwarders -- revolutionary additions to the Tree Biz

Wouldn't the nature of battery make reversible much easier? Just a switch. I see the electric weed whips can reverse the spin on the heads so you can control where the grass flys.

Ever killed a lombardi poplar? I've never pieced out a big one. Without two climbers, it would be up, down, up, down, up, down...Tip-tie and lower, rinse and repeat.

First of all, i hope your friend is victorious in his battle with cancer. My son fought the fight 30 years ago and won. It certainly seems like the majority of response is to go battery powered which is making more and more sense these days. I am sure theatertech and i both would be willing to stress test the prototype as we would be at the load limit of the unit.
