Rope Wrench alternate?

I have to think that there is a Buzzer out there that has a device like one of these to test out.

Can it be used like the Rope Wrench???

These can be attached mid-rope; has no pins and costs $53 to $90.

Let me know your thoughts>>>

Or if you want one with a smaller hole:

The top one, at least, is a fall arrester. I believe this means that even if you had this above your hitch, when you released your hitch, you wouldn't be going anywhere. The WR gives even constant (not total) friction.

Once you get toward the $93 mark you may as well buy the wrench anyway.

I'm also thinking that with the wrench being longer it has more leverage to bite the line. So in theory you'd see the wrench engage earlier and more smoothly with less weight. With those it looks like it could work but would be more of an all or nothing. The wrench wins too because you can adjust the lower friction point.
