Rope Runner

I spent most of my climbing life in the ignorance is bliss camp. A fucking taught line hitch and a bechets hitch on my 7-8" wire core manilla flipline was all I needed. Then one day I bought me one of those google boxes and discovered the inter-webs. Much to my surprise the climbing world had progressed in the last 30 years!! Next thing I know I'm what's know as a progressive climber who spends way too much time geeking out on gear. Have I spent too much time and money trying to find the perfect tool for me and the work I do? Hell yes!! Has it made my climbing life exponentially easier, and probably adding a few years to my time aloft? Yep!!!
I spent most of my career on a split tail mrs system. I had a mini pulley for tending, that was the height of my technology. Untill last fall I was hip thrusting and foot locking to ascend trim jobs. I've spent a lot of money on new gear in the last year, but it was absolutely worth it! I love the new school.

Had a Sunday morning session with the Runner in a beat up little Redwood across the road that I use for practicing and trying new gear. Tip was set at 125 ft already with some Edelrid 11mm Performance, so I gave it a good go with a rope walker setup first, then with a flipline and spurs. Needless to say the Runner is perfection in a rope walker setup. I could barely tell it was there during ascent, but it bit instantly when I sat down. Nuff said there.
With spurs and a flipline the Runner effortlessly followed me up the tree from the moment I left the ground, and is the first device to ever do that for me. It also tended effortlessly with the pulley when I tried to simulate the movements that I make when I am actually working the brush and wood in a Red or a Fir. The last 2 points are huge for me as 90% of my climb time is spent doing just that. I also gave it a good rip from 120-125 ft on a few descents. WTF? How is it possible that this thing can be so fast, smooth, responsive, and dynamic while also being very forgiving? I don't think I have ever bomb out of a tree so fast in my life, yet when it came time to stop I simply let up on the beak and it came to a nice gentle tapered stop. Absolutely Amazing. Between the Wrench and the Runner I'm starting to think that this Kevin Bingham character is some sort of mad scientist, savant, tree genius!!!

I like how the runner tapers to a stop and and that if I need I can push up on the beak and slow it faster if need and not lock up

I just bought a Runner and it is love at first sight. The problem its that my beloved 11mm HTP just bit the dust so I am in desperate need of some new climbing line. Looking for something that specifically kickass as in the Runner, and low bounce/elongation/stretch is mandatory. I'm cool with 11mm but my hands like the idea of something a little larger. Thought, experiences, and recommendations would be much appreciated.
Xstatic and don't look back. Very low stretch, loves the runner and at 11.7 hands like it too.

I have heard very good things about xstatic with the runner. You need a really worn slic pin for use with the wrench. All stuff I am told. Will try it shortly.

I feel like I need to warn everyone about Edelrid's 11mm Performance. Without a doubt one of the worst ropes I have ever climbed on. Undersized 11mm so it's tough on the hands. Bounce for dayzzzz. Doesn't hold hitches for shit. Literally flattens like a pancake when used with a Runner or the HH2. When loaded it turns into a piece of wiry cable which makes HTP feel like a limp dick. Steer clear folks.

I dodged that.... had it in my cart often but my splicer said hell no....Chinese junk I believe....think those were his words....

I couldn't imagine anyone enjoying this rope and I'm shocked that Wesspur carries it. Edelrid somehow managed to combine every bad quality we dont want in a rope in this TURD.

I bought the drenaline for my rr last summer from Bartlett here in Michigan. It works well. Very low stretch (just enough to keep my pelvis and hips happy) and feathers to a nice stop. Never really locks up now that some groves are wearing in the rr. But my complaint is that it flattened early and stays squished now that it’s broke in. Can’t be milked out either. Tried that at the first squish, and several more times later, no go. The flat area twists slightly and the twist likes to jam the rr on ascent and cause slips/skips on decent. Not super happy with the outcome. But I’m new and green. I get by. It thickens my skin.

A 330 ft hank of Marlow Vega showed up today. Gave it a quick go with the Runner and the Wrench this afternoon. A beautiful constructed rope with no bounce and a great hand. Worked wonderfully with both the Wrench and the Runner, though I had to close the bollard just a little as the new rope was slick as snot. A killer rope that for whatever reason doesn't seem to get much attention around here?

Ever since I saw it in person last weekend I have wanted some. Great combination of density and good hand. Seems like it will stay round in mechanicals. Might be my next rope purchace. It looks really nice too!

Is that a relatively new type of rope, amongst 11.Xmm static ropes?

Was looking at some, myself.

@rico, tell us - once it's fuzzed up - if you can get away with the bollard being all the way open. Right now, mine is totally open on relatively new Calamine, and it buffers me to a stop unless I've heated it up, and then it will slowly creep unless I push the bird upwards manually. BUT, this past weekend someone allowed me to try it on their fuzzed Calamine (or something from that family), and it locked up solid upon release.
