Rope Runner

I used the RW for the first time since getting the RR today and it has made me appreciate the RR so much more. The only thing I worry about is the amount of wear I am seeing on the bollards and the main body. I hear Kevin is playing around with a few ways to harden these wear points. I hope they work out and will be available to replace mine.

I had one in the basket in my browser for nearly two weeks dithering. Now I read your comments and I got regrets. Meh! Here's hoping it'll be cheaper in the UK eventually! (That or Kevin does some travelling over here and brings a few toys with him...)

I ran the Wrench yesterday, and agree with your statement. The three main differences I find are;
~ Overall height of the system, which only really matters when ascending in hand over hand style and positioning on a spar.
~ Slack tending. The Runner tends like it isn't even there. Buttered glass on ice. When Wrenching, I usually run a 5/1 Michoacan, but found a 4/2 VT was about as close to the Runner as I could get.
~ Sit back. The Runner feels like 0" in that department. Going back to the 5/1 Micho will be close enough without too much added friction when slack tending.

will the rope runner allow you to ascender Ddrt? I don't think it would be able to descend, but how about a few quick Ddrt pulls to advance your tie in point. I know there are other ways of advancing tip SRT, but just wondering if the rope runner would work in this way. Thanks

Nice! I wonder if there will be changes to the overall product before it comes out commercially? Or what you see is what you get?

I hope they go back on sale on Kevin's website.

How does it do in sappy conditions?

I've had no problems with sappy or wet conditions. It will def continue to change. Kevin is great with adjusting things when necessary. He's always tinkering and playing with it to make it better!

Earlier this year, I ran the RR through White Pine after White Pine for about 3 weeks straight. These were heavily storm damaged trees, oozing more sap than I'd care to remember. I was washing ropes 3 or 4 times a week. Nothing in my experience could have been cleaned and brought back to original performance characteristics better than a mechanical device. Cleaning the RR is easy, and when rebuilding, I have lubricated crucial areas with a dab of olive oil.
If you hit a dollup of pitch, you will feel a difference, for sure. At 100', I found the most comforting technique was to mitigate weight on the RR to ease it past the stickiness. I would do this by standing on structure if it existed, or grabbing a foot lock with legs more extended and easing into a sit.
All this being said, pitch buildup would have to be considerable and localized in order to create an issue. Otherwise, performance was quite normal and predictable over minor "contamination".

Nice vid Rich. Interesting mod, I have experiment with the hitch hiker under the Zig for the same friction concept. Obviously a little big but the concept worked as I expected. Still designing something smaller but I think it has possibility.

Supply equals demand....right now I have one RR from the first batch and one on the way from the second....I am a RW type dude....these are basically toys for me...I love rope on rope...mechanicals are not my thing...I use them from time to time...when i get the second I might be willing to SELL both but be prepared to spend some coin....Swing gives so much away...but these will be sold to the man with proper cash....mechanical junkies be prepared to part with some hundos....just saying...got me a few that are in line already....lol....I really want a Fiori Friction device which is the ultimate....any way just getting some folks hopes up....
