Rope runner, my initial thoughts

So let me get this straight, you guys are already modifying the rope runner and figuring out all the little tricks and the rest of us can't even buy it yet?

That's what I was thinkin! I'm seeing photos on Instagram of some guys that have it already. The one guy already has super glue on it and rigged somethin up for a better attachment point for a neck elastic...

That's sort of how I feel about the battery powered top handle saws out there. I am really looking forward to having one of those.

Also, some of the parts from the ZK-1 are interchangeable with the RR. One of the adjustments that can be made is to flip-flop the plates that hold the lower friction pin, so while it was apart, I put in the bronze...only because I had it and I'm quite sure it will wear less over time. That being said, the unit doesn't need any modification at all.

Yeah, hard to explain but I'm kinda irritated by this thread as of now.

Same here. Lots of pics and videos out there making it look like there was some buy the rest of us missed out on.

Big outfit like Petzl can afford a potential recall and/or lawsuit a lot easier than Singing Tree. Restricting the initial product release to a small market makes a lot of sense, imo.
My ZZ sits on the desk as I wait for Petzl to get back to me...
(Am looking forward to owning a RR2 someday.)

Yeah that makes a lot of sense, and perhaps a more appropriate way to open the thread....setting the stage, whos in and why. As is feels more like listening to a private conversation. Perhaps fscebook or some other exclusive means to communicate may have been more fitting at this stage.

And Kevin, some advice if I may. When people congratulate, encourage and go on to spend their money on your products....say thanks once in a while. Takes but a second, and goes an awful long way, trust me. Good manners cost nothing. Thanks

But thank you everybody for the support on this. It has been an interesting process and a lot of lot of thank yous are deserved by a bunch of people. This has definitely not been a solo project

The point people are making is that it doesn't seem limited at all.

A video from Kevin or one other person demo'ing it saying it was a step closer to market would have been better played.

Seems to me like these are Kevins so he can do with them as he will. I gave out HHs for folks to try before they were for sale, Im sure Petzl does too. You guys have no idea how stressful it is coming up with an idea, figuring out how to make it and then testing it. With the Wraptors I lost sleep worrying that people would get hurt. So what Kevin has given out what 10 units for real world testing.

Be patient this awesome tool will be made available when he has done his due diligence.

This is a test production run. I had a small group of "investors" fund this project half a year ahead of time. They now own rope runners. "The Dirty Thirty" They have helped me spend time out of the trees and in the lab so to speak. I have had several runners out amongst climbers over the past year and have made a couple of videos in the meantime. I have been climbing on one for a year and a half. There was an SRT/Rope Runner Seminar I held in Detroit at the beginning of the month. I am in full contact with everyone who has a runner and am receiving feedback. I was able to make a few extra runners and invest in making this work with the help of the original dirty 30. This would not have been possible without them. I hope these will be met with satisfaction. The people who are pare of the runner project also signed a liability waiver acknowledging basically that I am not Petzl, and basically nothing is guaranteed except for me to be available to answer questions.

I needed enough people so I could afford to buy some things in bulk, but not too many people to where I could not keep track of the runners.

I personally think the wrench is a better way to go for tree work but the mechanical devices have a purpose as well and they have their applications, there are advantages and disadvantages, things that are safer, some things that are more hazardous. If you are interested in participating in the Rope Runner project please PM me or email me. Im on treebuzz everyday.

I'm seeing it as it's like a "beta" version; Get enough out to make a production run worth while, get different people with different styles flying it, see their mods, any issues they may experience, make new discoveries.

It's extremely hard to make a design just right the first time & having info from a limited number of people can help to drastically change the outcome of this device to make it that much better after the next run.

If things keep going in the direction that it appears, I can imagine an official rated RR being released in the future. Just let the boys do their work and the rest of yall can have fun when the time is right ;)

I personally don't care who has them and who doesn't Paul, at this early stage or later on....its not as important to everyone. I just didnt like the way it came out, nor see the point of putting it on a public forum when only a select few have the insight to actually contribute anything.
