Rope Nut

Hello Kevin and all. Take a look at this reversible RW. It has to be threaded, but it has a roller on the bottom friction point, with a size 80 chain link pin for the top friction point, for use on a single rope. The tether point is on the left in the picture. If you flip it over, with the roller on the top friction point and the pin on the bottom, it develops about half the friction and works to take the heat of the hitch on a doubled rope. It could also be used as a friction saver at the TIP. Kevin I could send it out to you if you would like to try it out and see what you think.

When Kevin was developing the rope wrench I was working one my own. It's very close to what you've created there. Mine was oval though at had a couple more points of contact hopefully providing more friction.

I'd love to see a picture. The two different tether points provide two (actually four, if you flip it over) possible torques for the friction points.

By drilling two 5/8" holes through the side plates, it gives two more attach points for a biner or tether. This allows for three possible torque settings per side, if using it as a RW with a tether attached. If you where to run the rope right through the middle, between the steel rollers, it would function as a trolley.

Great ideas, it's cool to see all the different configurations this concept can take. Looking toward to trying out a nut.

Kevin, try this arrangement out with the rope nut (roller on the bottom, pin on top at the friction points). Put it under the hitch and use it to replace the hitch tender. You have to apply downward pressure on the tail rope with one hand, while releasing the hitch with the other to descend, in order to make it work.

The aluminum side plates are from stock, the rest I drilled on my drill press. This one took a bit more machining but is mid line attachable (above the hitch knot)

This rope nut swivels at the bottom friction point, allowing the biner to be unclipped from at the tether point, and then the side plate is swiveled aside, and the rope is attached through the device midline, then the side plate is swiveled back and the tether biner re-clipped. the tether biner would not have to be so large (I plan on making a more compact version soon)

Here is a compact rope nut I made today. It is also reversible and works just like the larger rope nut I started the thread with.

It works great for me. I like to use it with the roller at the top friction point. I am not much of a climber though, but have received good fed back from a trial user, and I sent one to Nick, so hopefully he will make a video review of this rope nut in the near future. Thanks Nick. It also works as a hitch tender on a doubled rope. I am trying to perfect a rope nut that works below the hitch on a single line, maybe that could be called a k-nut :)

Midline attachable robe wrench that can be used for other stuff too? Lemme know when I can buy one. Now, pardon me while I wipe the drool off my chin.
