rope guide primos splice

I was wondering what is being used on this particular splice to keep it's shape or if anyone has tried a particular method to do something similar that has worked out pretty well. I saw the primos and I like the idea of having the rope and not the metal ring.

I think there a couple of people that have tried to make there own home-made primos. Couple of things ive heard them say; It doesn't seem to be so much about the splice being stiff as the importance of the thimble. Some have tried hard splices so that it doesn't collapse as easily but doesn't matter how stiff your splice is if it falls off the thimble. It seems that the thimble has to be slightly larger than the normal thimble so that the rope slides easily from that OVER the cocoon pulley. Heard some also talk about attaching the thimble to the pulley so that they don't separate. Most of this is theory i will admit. But its info gathered from failed attempts.

I would like to hear exactly how a fully functional/ easily removable one is home made. I really want one. So if someone splices me an eye and sends me a cocoon pulley i'll figure it out for ya!

Some wire rope, inside a section of rubber hose, inside the hollow portion of the 16 strand eye. It helps open the eye for the pulley to pull through.

Hey....welll i think I found it here, is this the latest version of it ????

Thanks again.
Just about to step out the door to make it too Williams Lake tonight, as we have a pre job, for the new job/contract in Quesnel(3-4 months, LOTS of take downs) starting tommorow at 8:30.
So off to Willis puddle, the on to Quesnel and the job tommorow.
Have a great week all, and stay safe.

When I made my home made primus I just left the core in the 16 strand for the length of the eye. It made the eye much stiffer than a standard 16 strand splice and I don't have to worry about mixing materials and fibers being chaffed inside the rope. Works good for me. Everyone is right that the thimble is the most important part anyways.
