actually its quite easy for climber. a short choker (6' or so)is shackled to the dead end lug on boom tip. the climber is hoisted by his lanyard to boom tip. climber attaches his climb line to shackle on end of choker and transfers his TIP to boom tip. he then rappels to cut area. operator lowers ball so climber can tie off piece being cut. operator takes up slack. climber makes cut and either lowers himself to ground or crane lowers piece and climber stays stationary.
you would be off the load line. the crane is just used to make it easier on the climber to get to elevation. he then is supported by his load line off of boom tip.I was under the impression that the whole point of tying into the boom tip was to stay off the load line completely...
i guess you can only have one attachment point off of a knuckle boom with no load line. be boom tip or hook only.If you are going to do it this way you should be tied into the load line with a climbing system as well as a second tip, not just a lanyard.
I have 2 attachment points on the kboom. A short adjustable single line lanyard attached above the hook and my climbing system. I have configured it many ways but it isn't a problem.i guess you can only have one attachment point off of a knuckle boom with no load line. be boom tip or hook only.
